Hillary please pay these debts first
We've all heard the stories about Hillary Clinton's debt. The small businesses left to pick up the tab after Clinton came, saw and left an unpaid invoice.
Let's talk about the other folks she's stiffed.
The school districts, universities, cities, towns and non-profits.
From Hillary Clinton's February FEC filing these are the numbers:
Clinton owes a total of $19,627.20 to 14 school districts with an average debt of $1401.94. The largest amount, $4411.05, is owed to Winnacunnet Cooperative School District in Hampton, New Hampshire.
She owes 7 colleges and universities a total of $19,983.48 with an average debt of $2854.78. The largest amount is owed to the athletic department of Southern New Hampshire University. She owes them $9542.80.
She owes 11 cities and towns a total of $13,184.63 with an average debt of $1198.60. She owes the town of Hampton, New Hampshire the most with a debt of $4628.96. (Hampton, NH gets hit twice.)
Lastly she owes the Boys and Girls Clubs of Sioux City and Blackhawk County Iowa a total of $1,625.00 with $1000 of that owed to the Boys and Girls Club of Blackhawk County.
It's bad enough that she owes these folks at all but also notice who she owes the most to.
Institutions in freaking Iowa and New Hampshire.
Hillary's new campaign ad in North Carolina says to ask her questions. Okay I'll bite.
You raised $35 million dollars in February. You couldn't take time out of celebrating that to have someone write a check for a couple of hundred bucks to pay off an existing debt to a school district or town for a service provided a month before?
How can you expect to be entrusted to run any level of government when you show such disrespect towards the funds it needs to function?
Hillary Clinton spent yesterday in Beverly Hills at a fundraiser. Look for Mark Penn and the other snake oil salesmen running her campaign to be paid before these people will.

A-freaking-men.
I still can't fathom why her supporters think she can manage the country when she can't even manage her campaign. This is deplorable.

What makes this so bad is that campaigns usually try to do business with locals. Small business owners who live (and vote) in the district. Not paying Walmart a bill for a few months is no biggie- it won't affect their bottom line one cent. A small business is a different story. They have paid out the money to their event staff already. They are in the hole and counting on that bill to be paid. It would make my blood boil to be owed money by someone who made over 30 million the next month. Like letting your sister borrow money then she buys a pair of Manolos but still can't afford to pay you back. I call BS on that! Like when Hillary made the "He's a commedian" comment to discredit Sinbad. Who ended up being 100% right! She is just not very nice. I used to be happy with any of the Dems- but the longer the campaign goes on, the less I like Clinton.

Hillary is too busy counting her personal cash haul over the past few years!

On the day when it's revealed that she and Bill made $109 million over the past seven years, this is especially disgraceful, and should be forwarded and posted far and wide. Shame on YOU, Hillary Clinton!

She could pay those debts with personal funds and never think twice - let alone her considerable campaign funds. She wants to be the commander-in-chief of the US economy? What a sick joke.

She not only gives less than 10% of her income to charity (just saying - Obama gives 25%), but her campaign stiffs nonprofits and schools that support our children? Unconscionable.

This is a very well-researched and important post. The MSM should be covering this story. Thanks, and recommended.

baltogeek,
Would you mind posting links or other information to back those debts up?
Last week Wolfson said that the unpaid bills have now been paid...

A handful of the most media reported debts have been paid, but many, many others remain and many others have been added.
Those links are a couple of post down.
And actually, here's "Selected Presidential Reports By Year And Reporting Cycle." The main page.

Pay attention. His figures are from the Clinton campaign's February Federal Election Commission filing.
Educate yourself, hypocrite. Here are the Clinton campaign's more recent FEC numbers from March -

Compare them to the Obama campaign's FEC filing, also from March -
http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2008/M3/C00431445/D_DEBTS_C00431445.html
If you have the attention span to absorb these numbers, you'll realize that you're the one blowing smoke around here.
As a business owner, I'm appalled by the manner in which the Clinton campaign is stringing out it's dept. Such behavior would be bad enough in a good economy, but in this economy...?? The Clinton Campaign is really hurting, not only municipalities and educational institutions, but the small business owners - your neighbors.

OK this one gets me really mad. I heard one of these poor supposedly stiffed vendors, an event planner for the University of Northern Iowa complain because the Clintons would not pay on the spot like they usually require of campaigns and so they had to send an invoice and wait 2 weeks for a check. 2 Weeks! what a crime. most businesses run net 30 days.
but what pisses me off is that my family was a vendor of the University of Northern Iowa in 1989. My mom in law put in flooring into several new dorm buildings. they had to pay for thousands of dollars of top quality material up front and after NINE MONTHS they still hadn't been paid. the bank forclosed and forced a bankruptcy. My dear sweet father in law never knew his grandchildren because he died shortly after of a heart attack at the age of 52.
So get over this asinine meme it stinks!

Considering that other candidates also had to hold events in the same states, how come they don't rack up the same kind of 'invoice timing' debt?

Who says they don't?

The real issue for me is not some character flaw of the Clintons (in this regard, anyway) but that they're short of money. Obama pays his bills because so many people support his campaign with donations. She can't get near that kind of success.

I tend to agree with this interpretation. But there is something ethical to trying to keep up appearances at the expense of others. I'm sure many of us have witnessed this in our own lives, where an arrogant and extravagant man is living beyond his means, burning bridges all the way down to ruin.

It really shows what the Clintons are made of. They've got $50 million after taxes, almost $200 million they had collected for this election cycle, not to mention Chelsea's lucrative hedge fund job, and they still WON'T pay small bills of this nature. This family is about lucre and power.

And by the way, what, exactly are you hoping to accomplish here?
The utter destruction of the Clintons?
Really.
Who does that help?
Oh. The GOP.
Smooth move ExLax.

Well, I can say that for me it's about exposing politicians behaving badly to the sunlight of public scrutiny. This story has been only a murmur in the media, so the Clinton campaign continues to spend beyond its means, at the expense of many innocent, often very hard-working people.
And of course there *is* still a "race" for the Democratic nomination underway. I feel the contrast in how the two Democratic nominees treat the people they work with is relevant and telling.
And let's say Hillery Clinton defies incredible odds and becomes the Democratic Party nominee. Isn't it better that her campaign clean up its financial act now, instead of all of us watching a Republican 527 ad in September featuring a small business owner who was put out of business due to "Hillary Clinton's unpaid bills"?

this is all so interesting, but hardly a novel situation, unless you have not been following campaigns for very long. i guess an obvious question would be for the poster...do you pay all your bills on time
why, i bet all the obama people do, but you know there is a world of folks out here who sometimes are pinched when mortgage time rolls around, your kids are sick, the car acting up, you get sick..oh, its fine for snobbish elitists to poke fun at some slowly paid bills
as i said, i am positive all the o'cultists all pay their bills on time, hey, i am envious dudes...too bad you folks are so distant from reality, but thats not my fault either.
so hillary is strapped for money and she dunked obama pretty good in ohio...and perhaps she will do so in pennslyvania, outspent by millions all the fulsome obamites galore and somehow she still might win in a large, representative, swing state, with unpaid bills?
sounds like there is some sweat equity in there you folks do not get, get over it, hillary is not quitting move on find something new, oh, yes, my my the tax returns yes let us rejoice...a great obama goal reached..tax returns
they want me to do the math and talk about tax returns, and some folks wonder why its easy to get queasy around a lot of obama commenters in one place, you often feel you need to wear a raincoat

When is it, 3rd grade? Yeah, by then kids know that two wrongs don't make a right. You must be still held back!
Amazing that you are making excuses for Hillary not paying her small bills!
I wonder how behind she is in her payments to Penn, Wolfson...
And no, I don't want my President to be someone who doesn't pay the bills; even if the rest of the country didn't either.

This issue should not be lightly dismissed. She owes money to small businesses and school districts in states where she's asking for votes because she can help their economy and their schools. Why is this not a bigger issue? She can loan her campaign the money to pay some of these bills - let the Penn bill wait and still stay in the race.
It is very revealing and she should be judged on how she runs her organization. To not prioritize these bills shows hypocrisy. To not be a better money manager shows deep flaws in her ability to manage the US economy. To not understand how this looks shows a deep leadership flaw – her inability to use her own behavior to set a high standard and ask that others live up to it.
