Hillary "I haven't pumped my own gas in years" Clinton - Woman of the People!

Hillary has decided to show us all how much of an elitist she isn't by allowing a guy from a union who backs her to use his supervisor's truck(so the Secret Service can ride along) to drive 45 miles out of his way to pick her up at her hotel so the press can watch her pump gas in the pickup with him. {sound of crickets} Turns out she admitted to not pumping her own gas in years. She's so blue collar its crazy!

Read about it here.

Save us all.

At least we're spared watching her hunt ducks or something stupid in the general.

Hillary has a perfectly defensible reason for not pumping her own gas. If you've ever seen "The Jerk" with Steve Martin, you know that gas stations are magnets for sniper fire.

LMAO! http://www.qwipster.net/jerk.jpg

HE HATES THOSE CANS!

Coincidentally, it seems that Bill Clinton was born a poor black child.

I was wondering how long it would take for that line to come up.

Sometimes it's a softball, but that one was sitting there right on the tee. All I had to do was whack it.

TeeBall LMAO
Is NAFTA his OptiGrab?

LMPAO!!! (the P is for "penguin")

LOL

hahahahahahahah

hahahahahahahah
GENIUS!

Make that "Chief White Woman of the People that Count!"

This symbolizes all of her silly "I'm super-blue-collar!" escapades. As Steven Colbert said after the PA primary, "I can't wait to hear where she was born in Indiana!"

Well, Sanjay, apparently she lived there for two weeks. And she's using it.

Or so I'm told.

"At least we're spared watching her hunt ducks or something stupid in the general."

You speak too soon! We might have duck hunting yet!

More blue collar shenanigans: (from CNN site)

"At a chilly outdoor stop in the blue-collar city last weekend, Sen. Hillary Clinton told the crowd her father, Hugh Rodham, made and sold print drapery in the region and that as a young girl, she worked the factory floor with her mother and brothers. She reminisced about the church supper "molded salads" of her youth."

Pumping and Hillary, no matter in what context, NEVER MIX.

Clinton Stops at the Pumps

By Patrick Healy

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – With all of her talk about high gas prices and suspending the federal gas tax, when was the last time that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton pumped gas, anyway?

Well, it wasn’t this morning, despite her for-the-cameras visit to a Marathon gas station in South Bend to draw attention to her fight with Senator Barack Obama over steps to lower gas prices. The Clinton campaign arranged for Mrs. Clinton to “commute” with a sheet-metal worker on his way to work; she rode shotgun in a white Ford pick-up truck and to stop by the gas station to fret over the cost of filling up.

No shock, but David O. Selznick could not have staged the thing better.

The Marathon gas station was effectively closed to other customers for more than an hour as 30 reporters and photographers gathered at the station to await Mrs. Clinton’s visit. A caravan of 10 vehicles – 10! – finally arrived, including a van carrying cameramen to record the drive, and a white Ford pick-up truck driven by the “commuter,” Jason Allen Wilfing, with Mrs. Clinton in the passenger seat.

And it turned out the pick-up belonged to Mr. Wilfing’s boss; they used it so they could fit a Secret Service agent and Mrs. Clinton’s traveling aide in the back seat.

Reporters speculated beforehand about whether Mrs. Clinton would pump the gas herself, but it was not to be. Once parked, Mr.Wilfing pumped the gas ($3.76 a gallon) while Mrs. Clinton did most of the chatting about her concerns about high gas prices and how they affect everything from workers’ pocketbooks to trucking and shipping costs to companies’ bottom line.

Mrs. Clinton is very good at this sort of campaign theater, given all of her years on center stage – she talked with Mr.Wilfing easily and looked right at home, even though there were television boom microphones hanging by her face and a gaggle of reporters surrounding them.

To answer the earlier question: Mrs. Clinton said she had not pumped gas in a long time, given the Secret Service role in her life since 1992. Aides said that she had a driver’s license and that she sometimes used a hybrid S.U.V. back home in New York.

Mrs. Clinton paid for the morning gas — $63.67 for 16.9 gallons – and, as she has for several days now, lamented the high prices and renewed her call for a suspension of the federal gas tax during the peak summer travel months. She would pay for the relief by imposing a “windfall profits” tax on oil companies. Her Democratic rival, Mr. Obama, opposes the whole idea, calling it a gimmick; the presumptive Republican nominee Senator John McCain, supports the suspension but not the new profits tax.

In remarks to reporters at the pump, Mrs. Clinton said her “passion” in the campaign was fighting for the pocketbook concerns of average Americans, and she insisted that the tax relief would be “very helpful” to truckers and to people who had to commute long distances.

The nation, she said, needed “a really loud chorus, which I’m prepared to lead, saying our priorities are upside down.”

That truck was at least a 3/4 ton or 1 ton pickup and so calling $64 a 'fill-up' is utter bullshit.

I have a 1/2 ton pickup, 24 gallon tank and I run it to near empty before I hold back the tears and fill-up for no less than $85.

Don't forget the school districts that pay to fill-up gas guzzling buses - Mrs. Education Clinton should talk about how many of those tax dollars are paying to line the pockets of oil companies instead of ending up in the classroom.

And you know a lot of dualies have two tanks. $150 for a contractor filling up a truck isn't unheard of. $60 is about what I pay to fill up my Escape. I'm glad I ditched the Tahoe or I'd be crying right now. Gas was .69 a gallon back in 2000 over here and now I'm waiting for $5 or $6 gas in July.

We should be replacing all of our school buses with hydrogen-powered buses.

Good luck. The two main school bus builders in the US would have to move in that direction. One of them also makes the US Postal trucks and UPS trucks. Innovation is not something they are high on. I don't really know if I'd trust them to do that especially with the electrical problems they have.

The Govt would have to force any changes toward hydrogen.

Most of those trucks/vans/buses were built for diesel consumption - when it used to be cheaper and more efficient than unleaded. Not no more my friends - its way more expensive than unleaded now.

Diesel is also the fuel of civil/highway construction machinery and home heating fuel.

And the fuel of most fire trucks, emergency service vehicles(same manufacturers as school buses,RVs,etc)- and boats.
What will fuel prices do to shipping costs on the mississippi?

avatar

Well I'm way way west of the Mississippi - but I can only guess that the effect boat fuel prices will have on seafood prices - ugly.

I'm still nauseous from the article I read that the average private charter plane uses $12,000 gallons of fuel per trip. In this age of virtual everything - townhall meetings need to take place online, not to mention Congressional voting - think of the fuel consumption - shuffling congresspeople and senators to and from their home states?

I try not to think about it because we're pretty much past the point of no return with destroying our environment and wasting resources. We're killing our great grandchildren. I don't really think there is much that can be done to move away from oil without a complete economic collapse when the OPEC nations pull their cash out of the US.
Just imagine if 10 years from now we're talking about how gas was only $5 a gallon back in '08.

To bring this thread to the dark-side for a moment...

Many neo-conservative doomsday prophets argue that the high price of oil (then gasoline) can harm more people everywhere (via apocalyptic economic events) than a nuclear attack anywhere would.

Lack of goods getting to market, the rising (and eventually unaffordable) cost of commuting for workers - no work - no consumer based economy.

Obama really needs to remind folks that the IRAQ WAR has driven up the demand for fuel. What do you think all those armored (and some not-so-armored) vehicles run on? Iraqis don't have electricity but the U.S. bases sure in hell do - via diesel powered generators. Not to mention the constant movement of helicopters and cargo planes - ya think they run on ethanol?

Bush created an entirely new nation-sized consumer of oil with the Iraq War. Would have been great... ya know... if Iraqi oil paid for the thing - is that one of the arguments Hillary fell for?

Hillary didn't fall for anything. Mrs. Obliterate was in on the crime with Bush. What does she care? She has 2 mansions and a hundred million in the bank.

It wasn't really an oil grab for us it was an oil grab for the oil companies in the US who would get all the contracts for Iraqi fields. When looking at it that way, the increased middle eastern conflict is just a side bonus to boost oil corp profits via the price of oil.

Now there is a perfect storm hitting food prices, increased fuel costs, drought, ethanol demand using up corn and fuel, the weak dollar and the horrible US economy w/horrible housing/financial markets pushing investors and hedge funds to the commodities markets.

Operation Clusterfuck is a go.

avatar

Self-fulfilling prophesy. Believers or not, we're all participants.

I guess all those middle-aged boomers my dad hangs out with aren't so crazy after all for stockpiling canned goods and water in their basements.

Humans multiply like rabbits and exploit finite resources like there's no tomorrow (not saying I'm an exception!). As with any system that goes sharply off balance, the inevitable result will be a period of instability, no doubt a painful one because humans are notoriously terrible at long-term planning, on individual and especially institutional level.

It's all just the tragedy of the commons on a grand scale. It's kind of hard for me to get upset about it because it's so predictable.

avatar

She could have pulled off a 'save' by saying Bill does all the pumping in their relationship.

Couldn't resist, and can't apologize.

$3.76? We're seeing $4.10~ here in California...

Give me a break!
I know a number of women who don't fill their own gas tanks!
I know a lot who don't know how to scrape their windshields in the winter too!
These aren't Country Club Mavens, they are pretty, feminine women who get the men in their lives to take care of such things!
Chivalry is not dead everywhere!

avatar

I have to admit I send my husband to fill up my truck - I conveniently left that part out.

It started with me always having the kids and not feeling comfortable dragging them into a gas station to pay - he'd go late at night when there weren't any lines.

Then it moved to my hatred of standing in shitty weather while filling up...

Now it's evolved to my disgust at the final dollar amount.

We're supposed to scrape the ice off our windshields? I always thought starting it and letting it run 30 minutes to melt the windshield worked better =-)

Hillary Clinton being the wife of a former President has been under Secret Service protection since 1992. She does not drive due to security concerns, neither does Bill Clinton.

not only that, but she couldn't figure out how to work the coffee machine.

kinda reminds me of Bush 41 and his experience with supermarket scanners.
