Fresh Footage

Oh crap.  Now FOX is gonna run endless loops of this outtake from Obama's latest Town Hall.
I suffered so you don't have to.  Highlights of today's trainwreck in Wilmington ...

Here we go again.

As predicted. FOX is now all over this NC nightmare ...

http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/04/28/obama-pops-the-question-will-you-be-my-running-mate/

Not to be outdone by the rightwing noise machine, Raw Story (!) is now flogging an extended version of the vid ...

http://rawstory.com/rawreplay/?p=916

Gonna cop a mope now.

How in the world is this story a bad thing? I thought that Weiss was a firebrand, and Obama was lovely with her. The more people who repeat it the better.

Wow, you sound downright sanguine about l'affaire Weiss.

It's to your credit that you can remain so calm in the face of this vile footage.

Alas ...

Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.

So, The Bard's good advice notwithstanding, please excuse me while I go on an extended freak.

Le Freak, C'est Chic, n'est-ce pas?

Plus it might help Obama a bit - he needs to be seen as popular with the white older female voter.

And if you need to gain a little popularity with that older female Obama supporter in your life, we've got just the thing for you ...

http://www.cafepress.com/obamaweiss

Now that's Marketing!

Incidentally (Mrs) Weiss: German for White.

Of course, but the real genius here (to my - admittedly troubled - way of thinking) is that Weiss calls to mind Edelweiss ... which calls to mind one of the more touching moments from the "Sound of Music" - The Captain, Maria and the Children on stage moments before their escape - their rendition of Edelweiss becomes a teaching moment: authenticity trumps fear.

O don't - you will so lose me as I lose the contents of my stomach.

Sorry, these are some of my favorite things.

She said exactly what need to be said to him.

Agreed.

But now it's caught on tape for all the world to see, and if this snarky post were to get recommended, then potentially even more folks might see it, so whatever you do, pls don't rec this loony post, thanks !!

Count on me to not recommend this post, possibly twice.

Thanks! I've also gone ahead and recommended your "Hillary is not a Muslim" post so as to (hopefully) nudge this post off the front page that much faster.

Where's idiotic?

Take a look at idiotic's retainer - that he's not required to lend his efforts to flagrant rip-offs of rec'd dKos diaries is quite clear.

I just thought it might provide some counter-balance to your heavy-handed sarcasm.

That, too.

Fair enough, this post is going nowhere.

Probably needs to be reworked and posted over at OpenLeft under the title:

Self-Inflicted Ritual Humiliation

Love it, love it, love it!

Well then, show me some love.

Check this out and then come back here and rec my lame-ass post ...

http://www.openleft.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=5445

Thanks!!

Much better to be a Troll Whisperer than a Troll Banger, apparently.

In any case, let's revisit the comment that prompted the revocation of my OpenLeft posting privileges:

Krugman's concerns about the Obama campaign's ability to engage in wholesale politics have been noted. As have the concerns of those who've experienced the gauntlet of ritual humiliation that we Dems are expected to run every cycle. Just for today, can these concerns be set aside and we all enjoy this spectacle ...

If you're gonna call me on this nonsense, rest assured, I'll be taking Mark Penn's Chewbacca defense ... which is when ...

"someone asserts his claim by saying something so patently nonsensical that the listener's brain shuts down completely."

Is it too late to suggest that we count the number of comments rather than the number of recommendations?

Man this video is making my day!

Chino, your snark apart, you made my day again (I linked here thru' jsfox's post)... And, hey, I rec'd you too. Please don't flame me.

I was glad to see jsfox's snark-free post on this video. And your comment. Thanks!

Oh, and Tristero does a good job with this one ...

http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2008/04/they-hate-him-by-tristero-wow-do-they.html

Only thing lacking was video from that Wilmington, NC Town Hall, so I'll link to that again for him:

http://rawstory.com/rawreplay/?p=916

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about when you say "trainwreck." I think this is fantastic! What a wonderful outspoken elder woman, and she and Obama interacted so well. Can someone explain to me what the alleged problem is here? I don't see it.

OK, in reply to myself:

Self, you did it again! Got caught by snark! You're too damned wrapped up in the drama of all this -- have you no sense of humor, can you no longer recognize snark?

Sigh.

colorless but gets good gas milage

all Obama things drive it

save the earth

but not with earthtones

Good viddie, Chino, but jdw beat you to the punch:

Just above you in the recommended list.

FYI, I owe you an apology for a sarcastic retort to one of your comments after my snarkdar malfunctioned some weeks ago. (I know, ridiculous that I should care, but snark is my bread & butter, so missing it caused me to lose face to myself. Can one lose face to oneself?)

orange

And sarcasm is my tripe & ginger (swimming in vinegar, Hakka-style). Not for everyone and understandable that most turn up their noses.

As we say over here ...

Don't think of it as losing a face, think of it as gaining a collar.

Thanks, I feel much better. I've gained a collar to myself.

PS Next time, use these: <sarcasm></sarcasm>

No Genghis, someone can not loose face to oneself.

..........Unless, of course, they're avatar is wearing a red shit, then all things are on the table in the face loosing department.

BTW, love the shirt.

And after seeing this vid, I'm going to join Urbinato as a Clinton supporter.

THIS IS GREAT NEWS! FOR HILLARY!

It's kind of a reddish-orange. Glad you like it. Cypher up there dissed it yesterday.

And sorry to quibble but that would be EXCELLENT NEWS not GREAT NEWS. Misquoting idiotic is like misquoting Shakespeare. Sort of.

I'll take the Obama Roll over the Rick Roll any day!

Thank you!

This is IT! Forget about that Wright stuff. Don't know what we were thinking there, this is IT, baby, the BIG THING that will end his upstart candidacy once and for all!!! At last the scales will fall from the eyes of his deluded supporters and they will see what a [pick one: fake, fraud, phoney, poseur, empty suit, uppity oh wait I'm not racist never mind] he really is! His campaign is doooooommmed! Dooooooomed, I say! Buahahahahahaha!

By the way, my apologies for this post.

My family crossed the Plains in oxcarts in search of religious freedom in Utah.

Brave folks, but plenty of strange ideas bouncing around in their heads.

Their descendants have assimilated into mainstream America, but certain sympathies remain ... distrust of government, a millenarian view of world events that welcomes turmoil in the Middle East as a harbinger of better days, suspicion that melanin serves as a marker of pre-mortal valiance ...

If religious freedom means anything in this country, it has to mean we extend the right to disagree to everyone, that noone is held accountable for another man's views.

Obama is being held to account in ways that are unAmerican.

It has become about all of us now, and we need to speak up.

I've been floored by this whole Obama-as-Joe-DiMaggio "our nation turns it's lonely eyes to you" business ... where is the Democratic Party, where is Clinton, where are we? Don't we know how we feel about this business, or is it all on Obama now?

That's how I was feeling yesterday. Today, it seems maybe we're starting to see some good folks "girding up their loins" for battle with the pornographers peddling their scary black man video clips.

Kevin Drum's now got some good stuff up at his place about this:

HILLARY ON RACE ...
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2008_04/013620.php

REJECTING AND DENOUNCING
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2008_04/013629.php

I like the rhythm of this thread. Start with straight-out deadpan and then gradually segue to the real politics.

Yes, I agree. It's a racial double standard. Glad to see the NY Times is saying as much. Giuliani isn't called on to denounce the Catholic church, etc. and so on.

But, you know, Obama still had to denounce Wright. It really had to be done. Because clearly, Wright has a habit of saying stupid things when he gets camera-drunk. And you can't have a guy like that hanging around a campaign, being treated as a quasi-surrogate.

It was one thing back in March. Then, my sympathies were with Wright, and my anger was all about the racial double standard. But when the guy starts giving Q&A to the national press club, he has become a tumor on the campaign, and it has to come out.

I like the rhythm of this thread. Start with straight-out deadpan and then gradually segue to the real politics.

Thanks! Although, I felt bad about throwing some good folks under my sarcasm bus upthread. My lame excuse: I've gotten used to talking to myself 'cuz of my timezone and it hasn't done my people skills any favors.

I hear what you're saying about the choice Obama had to make. You're probably right. My anger has been that it seems we've left Obama out there on his own to deal with stuff that's not only beneath him, but should be beneath all of us - regardless of who we're supporting in this nomination contest.

EDITORIAL - Mr. Obama and Rev. Wright

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/30/opinion/30wed1.html

It is an injustice, a legacy of the racist threads of this nation’s history, but prominent African-Americans are regularly called upon to explain or repudiate what other black Americans have to say, while white public figures are rarely, if ever, handed that burden. ... [Obama's] opponents also have a responsibility — to repudiate the race-baiting and make sure it stops.

Congrats Chino. Now, your posts have beat the rec's.

Huh? I've only commented a measly 23 times so far on my own post, and look: the rec's are at a staggering 33 !!

Gotcha.

Mebbe it is time to sex up your avatar to get more rec's. We are all fighting for avatar nomination here.

Modified gray people make for cool avatars. Smoking might be a bad influence on the babies though.

Hey Chino, any interest in participating in the Obama fundraiser on June 14th? June 15th for you. I'm trying to get more international representation. We've already got Singapore. Here's the thread:

http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/04/tpmaholics-election-fundraiser.php

Thanks for the link. I'd be glad to step up for Taiwan. I'll let our Democrats Abroad chair here know about it as well.
