For Obama supporters feeling weary
When facing discouragement in the face of obstacles I believe in doing 5 things that are encouraging. Since Josh reports hearing from a lot of discouraged Obama supporters, I offer the following possible actions for building our collective resolve.
1. See how Barack has fine tuned his stump speech to focus on "regular folks"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFfhEQUdx04
2. See how Barack has fine tuned his stump speech to directly address some of the recent trash talking and at the same time see that Barack now is effectively reminding people he's one of them
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7NAcKtlTkw&feature=user
3. See how the campaign is getting excellent connection to regular citizens (especially republicans and independents) by having regular citizens (not always elected officials) introduce Barack
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jp_Xut5R8G4&feature=user
4. Take heart in Barack's own resolve. Toward the end of this wonderful but rather long interview with Dan Rather Barack says when he gets exhausted after 15 mos of campaigning he thinks about the troops on 15 month rotations in Bagdad and figures he has no room for complaint. Talk about the character of the man!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZa1KIR5o-U
5. Do one thing to encourage at least one other Obama supporter. If this post worked for you, an easy step could be to recommend it so others see it. Other options include making some phone calls for the campaign or making a donation to the campaign since Obama supporters also take heart in those counters going up and up.
We ARE this campaign. It's up to us to keep up the energy.
Yes We Can!

Sorry the weariness has consumed me. I am switching my support: http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/04/new-clinton-endorsement-today.php

Thanks for this. (Yoda -- for different reasons -- thanks for your post, too.)
Getting angry keeps me moving. I was watching people starting to come together on TPM. I don't want to become too negative about Clinton, nor will I smear her as a person. However, I cannot ignore the fact that her campaign has flagrantly used racism to its own benefit.
Everyone keeps using this "under the bus" metaphor today.
Aren't African Americans always getting thrown under the bus? I mean, forget the back of the bus, with mortality rates the way they are, and imprisonment rates the way they are (for minor crimes), things seem almost worse than they ever have been.
I'm not black, but I am kind of Jewish (I go to temple -- my dad's Jewish), so I am getting especially angry at Clinton for her campaign's strange efforts to align with one group and play to the denigration of another.
"Obliterate Iran" was code -- a very dangerous, very racist one -- that states we will kill brown people to protect Israel.
Of course, this is dangerous for Jewish people, too, because I don't think the interests Clinton or McCain represents represent the will of the Israeli people or what is best for Israel. Indeed, I feel as if we are falling for some strange trap.
I don't think these so called friends are friends at all.
I do think that African Americans and Jewish people should be -- for both are historically oppressed.
But we are set against each other so that we might be more conveniently targeted and used as weapons.
Anyway, I'm getting sick and tired of this demagoguery. I want the fight because I am sick of bad rhetoric winning.
Bad rhetoric is poison.

Your questions - the answer is yes.
And it's also not good for the First Amendment in general. It's an attack on dissent - this is America and we have a constitutional right to say God Damn America here and I haven't heard one person say that yet. It's an attack on freedom of religion.
And it's racism
All in one tasty treat!

If Barry is going back on his word not to "disown Wright or the AA community" when does he get around to the AA community?

Wright is promoting his own public image at the expense of his supposed friend. This is a guy who once predicted that a black man can never become president, and whose continued relevance within the black community depends on his being right about that.
Somehow I doubt the black community as a whole is going to do anything like that, and thus won't deserve the well-justified anger that Obama is expressing towards Wright.

I can't wait to watch these videos when I get home. I especially agree your comment about taking heart from Obama's resolve. And it's true: It's not that Obama and his campaign never make a misstep -- but he absolutely knows what he's doing and has the overall picture in mind. If he missteps, he recovers.

Especially when it coes from 1.5 million voices.
Now there's a Halleluiah Chorus for the ages!
I don't think we have seen just how powerful this Populist movement has become as a money-generator, "We, the people" are putting "them, the billionaires" to shame, with the kind of money we have given, in chunks and pieces, to Obama's efforts.
One of the striking factors in this preacher debate is how the Media, the McCain and the Clinton camps are now salivating desperately over every Obama moment, strategically turning Wrights words into Obama's "Dean Scream."
They (the MSM) don't have any stock Obama footage that can offend, so they keep superimposing Wright over Obama, because it is all they've got.
With polls growing closer in NC, now the media mistakenly thinks it has a tool to take Barack out with the Wright fiasco, and at the same time, they also are beginning to realize it may be too late. The populist uprising the has adopted Obama as its figurehead has been looking for a viable leader since Bush stole the 2000 election, and now that we have found one, there will be political hell to pay for anyone trying to bully this mass of newly energized citizen/voters out of the process.
Between the Denver primary and November there are four months to mobilize those sandals on the pavement, and gather in even more new voters.
(NEW VOTERS??? Its enough to make Von Spazkovsky cry...)
Considering the irrefutable that Obama's crew has done that street level recruiting better than any candidate in our long democratic history, (you shoulda seen em' in Iowa at the JJ Days, it was so powerful, even us Edwards supporters were drawn in by their street-level honesty) maybe that should inspire my fellow Dems to support Obama instead of pandering to the beltway boys (and girls).
Those new voters who will be swept up in the wave of unbridled enthusiasm that follows Obama's Denver win, will more than make up for the Dems In Name Only, Hillary's DLC-challenged supporters, who will defect to the "other" beltway-insider candidate rather than vote for a black man from Chicago.
Even with those bitterheaded turncoats figured in the mix, it will be a landslide for Obama.

Great diary. My husband and I just signed up to canvass for Obama in Portland (OR) this weekend. We'll drag our cute little daughter along, too (I'm shameless bribing her with ice cream afterward)
Watching videos of Obama are exactly the right antidote to the endless blog/pundit gnashing and thrashing over the Wright business. Enough already! He's doing great in all his town halls etc. he needs to just keep on keeping on and not give a quarter on Hillary's BS like the gas tax "holiday."
Go Obama!

Very simple. You host a gathering on Sat evening, June 14, time TBD. Invite as many people as you like. Suggest a donation amount that you feel to be appropriate for your guests. There will be a Q & A with a representative of the campaign, TBD, via conference call or live web chat during the party. That's it.
The more people we have involved, the better campaign rep we'd be able to get, and of course, the more we can do for Obama.
If you sign up here http://my.barackobama.com/page/group/TPM-aholicsSupportGroup
and add me as a friend, I'll put you on the list and get you more details as they get worked out.

Face facts, Obama is associated with and likely shares much of the hate and racism of Wright. It is not credible that he would have shared 20 years with his pastor, friend, spiritual advisor, and mentor without hearing, discussing, and either agreeing to or accepting Wright's hate and racism. Wright now calls him a liar and simply acting as a politiciam for expediency. How true.
You can try and find distractions to give you some positive thoughts, but just like Obama cannot run and hide from 20 years of association with Wright (and don't forget Meeks who is almost worse in some respects), you cannot ignore these incredible problems Obama carries. By ignoring this, you too become facilitators and may be likewise tarred for hate and racism.

"you cannot ignore these incredible problems Obama carries."
Methinks thou doest protest too much...
Considering the superD's he's racking up today, I would suggest that Obama's only REAL problem is people like you, who are so bent against him, you spend your precious time here trashing him every chance you get.
Whether you do it for McCain or Clnton matters not, you have spent most of your time on this blog acting as their surrogate. Only you know what your motives really are, but it is clear you are cocked and ready to blast Obama at every spin.
Cute picture, though.

Yesterday; Hillary Clinton stood beside the Governor of North Carolina as he said the following:
From CBS News’ Fernando Suarez:
"RALEIGH, N.C. – “This lady right here makes Rocky Balboa look like a pansy,” said Governor Mike Easley, D-N.C., today, referring to Hillary Clinton."
Isn't "pansy" a demeaning way of refering to a gay man.
Why has the Media not asked Hillary to denounce and reject what her supporter, Governor Mike Easley said yesterday, while Hillary was standing by his side?
Also, what do genuine feminists think about the way Hillary likes being described as being more of a man than a violence prone punch drunk boxer character!

For weary Obama supporters, let me remind you of another candidate who was deemed unelectable.
If I remember correctly (and I may be hazy on some of the details) before the Democratic Convention in 1992 Bill Clinton was running behind both Bush I and independent Ross Perot. He was facing numerous scandals that the conventional wisdom said made him "unelectable" (Gennifer Flowers, "I didn't inhale," accusations of draft dodging). Accusations of elitism dogged his campaign after his wife said she wasn't some "little Tammy Wynette, standing by her man."
Many in the Democratic Party were hoping for Mario Cuomo to ride in on his white horse and "save" the party from the candidate people had actually voted for. In-the-know pundits were writing obituaries for the Democratic Party.
And yet, Clinton, flawed candidate though he was, won in 1992 largely because the fundamentals of the race favored a Democrat. Simply, after 12 years of Reagan/Bush the country was ready for a change. In 2008, after 8 years of Bush/Cheney, the country is even more ready for change than in 1992, and Obama (despite his very real flaws) is the candidate best positioned to tap into that desire for change.
The doubts and "buyers remorse" that many Democrats are going through right now with Obama are actually pretty small compared to the doubts Clinton faced in 1992. No candidate is perfect. It was inevitable that Obama would get his halo tarnished at some point, better now than in October.

What gives hilLIARy her drive and determination is that if she loses this nomination, politically, her life is over. She is getting up there in age, the people of NY, IL, and AZ have all had to settle for less than 100% representation in the senate for 2-3 years, and they may not want her back either. Her whole life since the last days of Clinton #1 (hope I don't have to get used to that) has been carefully choreographed. Pick a big state, even if you have no REAL connections to its people, and climb the political ladder. Oh and by the way, Bill, you owe me big for Monica, so get your ass out there and campaign, because if I lose, I can write a book. And what a book! If hilLIARy loses she will take her ball and go home. Remember Nixon in 1960?? Hopefully, we won't have hilLIARy to kick around any more.

The beauty of the Internet is that every time you get pissed at some unfair election tactic or bad result, you can contribute some trifling amount (depends on individual) to a campaign and get immediate satisfaction.
Works every time for me.
Just keep the amount small so you can do this over and over and over.

I'm one of the weary ones...saw it coming too. I'm not surprised by the vehemence of Hillary's campaign, but like Obama, really tired. It gets tiring when you are punched repeatedly but have vowed not to hit back. It's not even a fight, it's just ducking *her* sniper fire without returning any, and some of her bullets have drawn blood.
Really sick of the political process too - what used to be the provenance of 527s is now MSM fodder.
2000 could have been a fluke, but then came 2004, and now this. I'm not sure if anything's changed in the system since 2000.
I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worse, will believe in and support him to the very end. Hard not to get cynical though...:( will try, try, try.

I'm Canadian but I have been fiercely watching the race. Obama is such a breath of fresh air and statesman like. His remarks yesterday were an excellent example of grace under fire. Surely, Hillary's antics provide all the contrast one needs to illustrate that he is the finer, the more honest person for your people.
