Does Bill unconsciously want Hillary to lose?

I have come to the conclusion that Bill secretly doesn’t want Hillary to become President.  I’ve actually thought this for a while.  I’m not saying it’s rationale or that I can provide a good reason for his wanting this outcome. I just think he has no control.

Bill has been totally reckless in his behavior as surrogate for Hillary throughout this campaign.

This latest stirring up of the “Bosnia” issue is the latest in a series of misfires from him--

Fairytale, Jesse Jackson, and much more.

He’s been undisciplined, a lose canon and no one can or is controlling him. I don’t think Hillary can control Bill.

He has been reckless with her campaign in ways that he would never have been with his own.

Why is he being so reckless and undermining her ?

Well here’s the ugly elephant in the room.

He just can't help it. This is the same man who was arrogant, ill, crazy enough to jeopardize his marriage and the Presidency to prey on women. This is not someone who is in control.  He is going around talking about the double standard Hillary is being held to.  I imagine he agrees with those who claim mysogony is the reason why people don’t like her.   This is all quite ironic to me since his humiliation of his own wife was the ultimate act of mysogony.

Or... it is a smart, calculated move.

Talking about this Bosnia thing will attract enough attention from the Media that we will all forget about how many millions they have. How despite having all this money he still collects big on his Presidencial Pension and so on...

One of the most difficult issues for someone who might support Hillary is that she is the proverbial enabler. Some supporters have tried to make this part of their loyalty to her, especially older women. Younger women see weakness in this and as something they would never put up with. He certainly doesn't help her.

Every time he's on the tube it's more votes for Obama. So keep on Bill !

Hmmm, no, I think Bill knows exactly what he's doing--he consciously does not want her to win.

I think it's unconscious because I think as others that they did cut that "secret deal" with each other to stay together until she becomes President. A deal that probably creates manure loads of resentment for everyone. And you know what happens to unresolved manure!

I'm with you and was just talking about this today with a fellow political junkie. I don't think Bill is coming from "unconcious" motivation. I think he couldn't bear Hillary becoming, possibly, a better president than he was--I doubt she'd face an impeachment vote for lying about a stupid, sophomoric "affair" with an intern.

Before we cast "enabler" stones at Senator Clinton, let's all think back to those people we may have enabled throughout our lives. It isn't the worst syndrome to suffer from, in my opinion.

You're right about the enabling syndrome. But what does it say about her that she stayed with him? Surely it was a political decision--but I guess that's OK too. After all she went through, she should get something for staying with him.

They didn't plan on Barrack Obama though.

Yes, I agree.

I'm with you, too. I think he's doing this stuff on purpose. Bill think he's the end all, be all of Democratic leadership. He doesn't want anyone to be better than him. I remember the look on the faces of Bill and Hillary after Obama gave his '04 speech at the DNC convention. Bill has had nothing good to say about Obama, even though Obama is pretty much running Bill's '92 campaign, but with a lot more honesty and more to the left. I think he's worried that Obama or his wife would be a better president than he was.

I wrote something similar earlier today. I likened the Clintons to George and Martha from 'Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf?'. There's no way he didn't know he was hurting her. It would have been the same as her bringing up Lewinsky every time the dust seemed to settle.

The expansion of executive power since Bill got out of office would likely make his wife a more powerful president than he was... if she wins.

No.

He's just rusty, and older. He's gotten flabby.

I think he wants to help but it ends up badly.

He's lost it - bringing up Bosnia again? Telling people she's 60 so she forgets?

Either he's got pump-head from his by-pass, or you're right, he doesn't want her to.

Yeah, and if the blood's not getting to his head then maybe it's not flowing elsewhere. That would be a relief.

If she did win he'd be on a shorter chain, wouldn't he? Maybe that's what he's afraid of.

Denni - I read your piece with the comparison to Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe and it was really good.

I just read Denni's piece too. I agree--it was very good.

girl from the bronx---what street are you from?

Maria, you're funny! I think you've asked me something like that before on another blog and I'm sorry to say, I never answered.
I used to live on Nelson Ave. but then we moved to the Grand Concourse, 171st!

Are you from the hood too?

I lived near Gun HIll Road for a bit.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.
