Carter, Gore To Step In?
The Scotsman ([in]famous for printing Samantha Power's "monster" comment) has just reported that
DEMOCRAT grandees Jimmy
Carter and Al Gore are being lined-up to deliver the coup de grâce to
Hillary Clinton and end her campaign to become president.Falling
poll numbers and a string of high-profile blunders have convinced party
elders that she must now bow out of the primary race.
Former
president Carter and former vice-president Gore have already held
high-level discussions about delivering the message that she must stand
down for the good of the Democrats.
"They're in discussions," a
source close to Carter told Scotland on Sunday. "Carter has been
talking to Gore. They will act, possibly together, or in sequence."
So what do you guys think--are they on the mark here, or totally off?

Color me skeptical. I really think Gore simply doesn't want the headache.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit. I would be surprised if it were splashed all over the front pages. The end will come in private.

While I'm really skeptical (at least in regards to Gore), I really do hope this is true. Hillary's lust for power knows no bounds, though, so I doubt any well-intentioned leaning from Gore, Carter, and other party elders would make any difference. Remember, this is the woman who thinks she's winning and dodges sniper fire with her daughter on a regular basis.

there is no doubt anyone with integrity can not possibly like hillary, but i have seen nothing to believe Gore is interested in doing anything.
Carter for sure would love to end this in favor of Obama, but he has to be sure to achieve such a result.
Interesting never theless and i would look for another story somewhere that suggests this before believing it.

I do not think the Clintons will care what Al Gore has to say on any matter whatsoever unless it has to do with the environment. Not that they should (it doesn't sound like they have a great relationship). If they want to be loyal to the party and promote peace, it shouldn't take Al Gore to get them to that point and it won't anyway. I think the only people the Clintons will listen to are the Clintons and their most loyal and sincere followers. Perhaps this is how it should be.

I've anticipated something like this for weeks now. That said, I'm highly skeptical of this report. I'll believe it when I see it.
And without some sort of ultimatum, I doubt she'd listen. At this point, I think she's best described as "rogue."

I think not. That article sounds like a press release from the Clinton Campaign, peppered with a little objectivity as to not be so conspicuous.
Hillary is very likely to win by 20 or even 30 points in PA. Polls show a closer race, but as they say, polls don't vote.
It is the Clinton campaign's job to lower expectations. It is also their job to tell superdelegates that Obama can't win the white blue collar vote. It will be the Clinton campaign's goal to try and prove this by the PA exit polls. It will be the Clinton's goal to convince everyone you have to win PA to win the white house.
A faulty premise when you consider just how different state voting trends are changing in 2008. Turnout is unprecedented.
The Clintons have two choices. The prospect of being severely humbled by a candidate they never really took seriously, and still don't. Or divide, kneecap and bludgeon anyone who gets in their way.

Lets just say if they stepped in to try and stop it all out war would occur within the Democratic party. Not only would it damage any attepmt by the Nominee to win but it would hurt every other Candidate around the country.

So let me get this straight:
It's not okay for the super delegates to all come out and endorse Obama to effectively stop Hillary's chances before the convention, but it's okay for them to override the pledged delegate count to give Hillary the nomination and stop Obama's chances?
I just want to make sure I'm clear on your logic.

They get to vote at the Convention. Only way it ends before then is if one of the candidates concedes. Before they vote on the nominee, they vote on seating Florida and Michigan delegations. Then they call the role, starting with Alabama. On the first round the super delegates can abstain, guaranteeing a second vote. On the second vote, there are no longer any pledged delegates of any kind. Everyone votes the way they want to. Do you have a problem with any of that? I think it's great.

No, don't misread what I said. I said simply that they can't come in and decide it. He and She will not have this thing sewn up before Denver just on base delegate count. Can you imagine a worse scenario for the Supers to jump into? How will you react if they came in and gave it to Hillary?

I don't think Carter and Gore would be 'deciding' it if the two of them came out and publicly endorsed Obama. What would 'decide' it is if a majority of the remaining Supers decided to do the same before the convention.
Though I've said it before, short of running out of cash, a miracle or the second coming, Hillary won't quit until after the final votes at the convention.

The Hillbots only trust the Scotsman when it uses off-the-record remarks to out Obama staffers. They won't believe this.
If it does happen, they'll attack Gore and Carter in the same manner the Bushbots go killer bee on anyone who threatens to bring down The Decider.
It's like Jamestown, but with demitasse instead of styrofoam.

If Carter and Gore step in and try and shut her down? Yes they will get the wrath of the Clinton supporters on them, just as you would do the same if they came to Obama and tell him to stop.
