Bill Clinton's Sense of Loyalty

avatar

It was reported today that Bill Clinton went off on a tirade at a meeting with California superdelegates this weekend when one expressed her disappointment with James Carville's Judas barb toward Richardson. Turning red and shaking his finger, it was stated, Clinton passionately condemned Richardson's change of allegiance in somewhat equivalent terms.

If the Clinton Duo's fall from grace had not already appeared to be leaving the station, I might have been surprised and saddened. Wait. On second thought, I was, and still am, saddened. I used to marvel at Bill's command of political issues and his love for the governmental process set forth in our Constitution. And I withheld no less admiration for Hillary as she stepped out of the role of First Lady and was finally able to apply her well-honed talent.

But what is this distorted sense of loyalty Bill is desperately clinging to, and no doubt, has Hillary's tacit approval? Has our representative democracy suddenly devolved into a network of feudal obedience with kingpins calling in past favors? Now, I'm certainly not so naive to think this isn't the norm for mediocre politicians and many unfortunately powerful ones. But I guess I just expected more from the Clintons who have built a legacy on setting high ideals for the Democratic Party.

An elected representative's loyalty should be, first and foremost, to his country and the people he represents. It should not be to those in high position with the ability to dish out coveted appointments.

Bill needs to chill out. He also needs to take some time off and perhaps revisit some of the basics. Maybe a good place to start would be James Madison's Federalist #10 where he warns against political factions.

I'm kind of sick of Bill Clinton shaking his finger at people. Isn't that usually a sign that he is lying?

This entitlement crap the Clinton's have going proves Obama's point about Washington experience not necessarily being a good thing. The longer the Clinton's and their cronies have had their tenticles in the Washington sewer the more it has corrupted their behavior and attitude. This is not the same Bill Clinton I spent years defending to my moderately conservative military husband. That Bill Clinton was not perfect, but compared to Newt Gangrene and the Republican revolts that took control of House in '94, he was pretty damned good. Now I see a man who is so corrupted by the access of power, influence and money, that he's got the cracked idea that he and Hillary are owed another stint in the White House. He thinks the voters owe them, the Democratic Party owes them, and anyone who ever supported them in the past owes them. And he's been at it for long enough to lose all sense of porpotionality or fairness. He's doing things I don't believe he would have done 20 years ago. In '92 he was the candidate of "hope", now he mocks it. You ever notice that a large part of the support they have is from long time Washington insiders with similar delusions of granduer. They are the old guard and they are about to be replaced over the next few election cycles with the new guard of millenial Progressives.
The Obama's haven't been in Washington long enough for that, and maybe they could withstand it better than most, but keep in mind that Michelle Obama said that they wouldn't be doing this again because she thought they would be too far removed from living like average Americans in 8 years to be able to see things like they do now.
Not everyone who goes to Washington succumbs to this crap. But the Clintons not only fell into the hole, but are digging as fast as they shovel to make it bigger everyday.

If I knew Michelle Obama, she and I would be very good friends.
