A List Of Postings About Reverend Jeremiah Wright.
And I bet Moyers kicked their butts in ratings tonight.
The biggest offense in the Wright tapes - when played in longer segments than Fox or ABC or any other outlet has played them - is no one has captured the sentiment around the words beyond the Noise Level. Wright is talking to a community that feels like America has left them behind - economically, politically, socially, demographically. As Jimmy Boegle put it, "Why do you think it's impossible to love your country, yet still be ashamed of it?" Which a poster on Reddit added "I remember Trent Lott saying something like "It's possible to support troops while opposing the president." Which are variations of exactly what Wright was saying in the 'God Damn America' speech.
Why the media chose to add fuel to that fire, I can only file under racism. Even ratings and profits don't excuse such reckless coverage.
Following are some of what I've found to be significant articles on the web on this topic of Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and the campaign of Barack Obama. They reflect how this became a media circus, who was a user, who was seeking clarity. Hopefully you can use something on it to support both of these people.
And while you're at it, make a donation to PBS. Let them know it's for Bill Moyers' Journal.

How about this one from Politico:
Obama's Pastor: The Backstory
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/9051.html
It always bothered me at the time that a couple of the paragraphs in this story seemed to go unnoticed:
So which opponent was it? There was only 2 at that time - Hillary or McCain. And McCain was the one that had the class to come out on TV and say he knew that Obama didn't share Wright's controversial views. Feb 20th was before the Ohio/Texas primary but after a string of 11 losses in a row for Clinton.
Why wasn't this picked up that Hillary was the one pushing the media to break the Wright story?

Rev, Wright is an extremely irresponsible individual. And this issue will dog Barack Obama for the rest of his life.
Rev. Wright is a racialist. He is obsessed with race and has indoctrinated his congregation with his obsession.
Conspiracy theories, a theology that demands that God destroy whites, accusations that whites have "killed off directly" some of the best and brightest of the black community, a call for 'black ethics' (as if ethics could have a racial component), and on and on.
Rev. Wright is a DISASTER for Barack Obama, and if Obama loses in November, he will have Wright to 'thank' most.

JackieinCA why wasn't this picked up that Hillary was the one pushing the media to break the Wright story?
Do you think the media is going to do a story that would show them trying to keep Clinton in the race by damaging Obama? And no I don't think they pushed the Wright story or any of the other "controversies" because they favor Hillary or want to see McCain elected. They do it because their ratings remain high as long as there is a contested primary.

Rev. Wright’s insinuation that the media (or opponents) was trying to frame him and bring down Obama doesn’t hold up. To think that those clips, regardless of the race of the speaker or political associations, would ever be ignored by the media is naïve at best. The video only broke the story nationwide and sensationalized it. Clinton never pushed this story (though they raised the issue of its effect on electability after the whole thing had come out). The story of Wright was known for a long time and it was only RW blogs and media that were pushing it. The MSM wouldn’t touch it until the video was released by the church on Wright’s retirement. How could any news organization ignore this video?
Moyers and many of the pieces you link to give a broader understanding of Rev. Wright and where he is coming from, but that isn’t Obama's political problem. I didn’t notice a link to the Rolling Stone article published over a year before the clips that detailed Obama’s political problem with his association with Wright and black liberation theology. The question of Obama’s association was there with or without the clips or sound-bites and would have been exposed sooner or later. We’re still trying to answer the question of whether America is ready for a minority or female president. Do you think that America is ready for a president who has had decades of associating with a church and mentor of radical theology or, even casually, with former domestic terrorists or pro-Hamas groups or even his radical Alinsky activism?
There is nothing wrong with Alinsky activism or speaking out for Palestinians (I hope someday that issues like this can honestly be debated in DC). But how will it play in middle America? There is no video of Obama in the pews, joyously chanting along with “God Damn America” but for some it is just as if there were. Obama is not a radical and guilt by association is not fair, but it is a political problem and a question of judgment. He made a fatal error when he didn’t address this before the campaign geared up and completely disassociate with it. I think he could have put it (and the other character-questioning associations) behind him or at least neutralized its effect as a Swiftboat scandal by getting in front of it instead of trying to deny the problem.

Don, Unless you think that the teachings of Christ are radical, there is nothing radical about Wright's theology. I get the impression that you didn't watch the Moyers interview last night, or you wouldn't still be spouting the exact same right-wing/Hillary talking points that you have been posting here for the past few months.

Wonder what Rev Wright would have to say about that
He would probably say that your thinking is flawed as evidenced by the existence of a question that ask "is America ready for a black president."
Guessing that's spoken from a "white" perspective. Or is it spoken purely from an American perspective or a white-American perspective?
Reverse-racism is a myth and not possible. What, adverse measurable effect can the minority have over the majority?

This progrssive church is still working on their mission statement. They plan to be ,"profoundly white" without being "anti" anyone, and totally "pro American".
They of course will be "labeled". Any thoughts or ideas?
Will keep you posted on their progress.

"Why the media chose to add fuel to that fire, I can only file under racism."
So add yourself to the growing list of people who believe the interest in Jeremiah Wright's words and attitudes is not legitimate and must be racism. I'm not going to argue the point with you. I will simply say that those Obama supporters who cry racism compound Obama's problems by highlighting the divisiveness of his campaign. This is not a new kind of politics. This is the racial politics of guilt and finger pointing. America has had way too much of that in the past, and certainly doesn't need more. We need someone to get us beyond that, and as the rhetoric from his supporters clearly proves, Obama isn't that man.
