69,000 Who Voted for Hilary Say They'll Vote for McCain in General - Why?
I posted this originally at 4 in the morning but am now reposted with some edits. From CNN's exit polls, it looks like 10% of voters who voted in this primary intend to vote for McCain in the general. It looks like they asked if the general was Clinton vs. McCain, then 81% would vote for Clinton, 10% McCain. 10% of primary voters equals 230,000 voters. 3 out of 10 of the 230,000, that is 69,000 voters, voted for Clinton. It looks like 69,000 of those who voted for Clinton are planning to vote for McCain in the general election. Does anyone have any ideas why?
Did some of them vote that way just because they like Hillary more? Would they prefer to have McCain run against Hillary? Have they been listening to Rush's operation Chaos. By helping Hillary win, they get a candidate that is likely to unit the Republican base.
Here are the numbers.
Vote for President in November
Clinton - Obama
Clinton (81%) 62% 38%
McCain (10%) 30% 70%

Cause she's a Republican, just like Johnnie boy!

I see this as Operation Chaos in action and it's pathetic that none of the MSM want to give OC any credence because they hate the idea of the disgusting Rush Limbaugh having enough clout to meddle in an election.
But he does.
And he brags about it.

Hillary has not stuck to the Democratic party's mission. The reason Obama has not gone completely crazy pointing out her hypocrisy is that one of them is going to be the democratic nominee. You can't totally trash your fellow democrat if you want our party in the White House.
Apparently Hillary has no such reluctance. She is completely narcissistic and does not care about the party at all. Basically she is saying "If I go down, I'll take the whole party with me"
Hence the relentless untrue and rovian attacks on Obama. The Hillary supporters who would never believe she would do such a thing, fall hook line and sinker for the spin:
He's not ready
He's an empty suit
He's a Muslim
He has radical ties
He has a radically racist pastor
He is like a snake oil salesman
the list goes on....
They believe that John McCain at least has gone against republicans in the senate before and is a tested Washington insider who would be much better president than a slick smooth con artist. (which of course they perceive him to be thanks to Hillary)
It is amazing that superdels don't defect enmasse after what she has done to our party. How can we be proud to be democrats and what we stand for if all of those ideals can be thrown away. Then ends justify the means? Can you Hillary supporters actually cast a vote for her and not feel a pang of shame?

a) There's a certain segment of bigots that aren't going to vote for a black man no matter how well he aligns to their issues.
b) When your central point in the primary is that your opponent is completely completely and utterly unqualified to be the POTUS, it shouldn't come as a surprise when your most fervent Kool Aid drinkers take it to heart in the general election.
c) Hillary and McCain are practically interchangeable, especially in foreign policy, so why shouldn't McCain appeal to her voters? The only silver lining of a Hillary/McCain general election would be watching them try to out "maverick" the other in their rhetoric about how they're just itchin' to "obliterate" an Islamic country if given the chance.

What it says it that Hillary supporters do not have the best interests of the Democratic party at heart.
Obama supporters want a Dem to win in the fall.
Hillary supporters would rather see a Republican in the White House if their girl can't win.

A friend of mine and I were wondering the same thing - this is off the CNN exit poll, right? Here's the link, it's at the bottom of the page:

There's got to be something missing, or it's a really bad table (or I'm now incapable of reading a table - always a possibility). The way I read the table, 95% of those who aren't voting, would for Obama in the General.
Yeah, Hillary comments aside, if someone can explain the table I'd appreciate it.

Hey tonnyb,
Updating my earlier comment: I've posted the same question on KOS:
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/4/23/161954/963/489/501919
And just contacted CNN too. Still looking for an explanation other than "the table doesn't make sense"....

Would Not Vote(6%) 5% - 95%
This means that 6% of all primary voters will not vote if it's Hillary vs. McCain. 95% of those 6% voted for Obama.

For what it's worth, some discussions I've had with ex-pats over the pond is many like Obama.
They say Obama is a good orator; tells people what they want to hear in a candidate. However, they also point out he lacks substance; the ability to push thru the ideas he talks about. He gas great ideas and a well detailed map where he wants to lead America; they just don't believe he has the umph! to push those ideas to fruition.
On the other hand, Miss Hillary, while mean as a backyard alley cat, gets the nod of approval for her tenacious grip on what needs to be accomplish to steer the ship of state back onto the course of prosperity for all; at the expense of those who have profited immensely under Bu$h.
All in all, many people I have spoke with are pleased we have two candidates battling it out right up to the convention floor. What a refreshing change; the nomination process is no longer a cake-walk! Democrats have something to fight for. So what's been going on in the primaries should be a wake up call; we have candidates out looking for blood. And they may be laying mines in their wake just in case the repugs try to sneak in a swiftboat attack.
As for me, I would be pleased with either candidate. Regardless of the blood that has been flowing; its' but a trickle of what the repugs have done to Americans over the last 7+ years. I would hope others can see past the forest they've planted in front of them, blocking their view of the trees.

In Pennsylvania there was a concerted effort to get Republicans to change their registration to Democrat so they could vote for Clinton.
It was so bad that at my voting location there was a reminder in front for people to re-register as Republicans with registration forms available.
Of interest was that in Pennsylvania, over 2,000,000 votes were cast for Democrats and less than 1,000,000 were cast for Republicans.
Of those votes cast for Republicans, 16% were for Ron Paul and 11% were for Mike Huckabee. McCain only got 73% of the Republicans to vote for him.
Makes one wonder how many of that 27% would again vote against McCain in the general election.

I can answer that one. Because they are mad as hell at being told they don't count. Instead of letting this thing progress the democratic way, most of the media and all of the Obama backers insist she fall on her sword and crawl home.
Does that make it right? No. I she happens to get the nomination, will the reverse happen? That number could be even higher.
It's the fault of folks like MSNBC and the other media (yes, TPM deserves some blame, too) that continue to drive a wedge among both side's voters. Hope you're happy, guys.
