You've been vetted? Really Senator Clinton? *
Even as Hillary Clinton's operatives were dropping hints that Republicans would exploit Barack Obama's youthful drug use, some Clinton insiders privately worried about her own vulnerability because the Bush administration possesses detailed knowledge of her movements - and her husband's - over the past seven years.
The Clinton campaign has outlined a strategy whereby they throw the kitchen sink at Obama and hope it makes the superdelegates just nervous enough that Obama might have some undiscovered scandal somewhere that they choose not to "roll the dice" for him and, instead, overrule the popular and delegate majorities to install Clinton as the nominee. This "he's unknown; I've been vetted" strategy seems to finally have gained some traction, at least in the press interpretation of Tuesday's results. But Obama has been under intense scrutiny from two tough Chicago papers since he was elected as a state senator there and they have poured over every bit of the Rezko issue and have been unable to find any evidence that he did anything unethical or illegal. In the end, both newspapers enthusiastically endorsed his candidacy.
Meanwhile, of course, we do "know" a lot about Clinton. We know about travelgate, whitewater, Monica, the Lincon bedroom, Sandy Berger's pants, and all of the other things, real and unreal, that the GOP will gleefully bring up in the general election. But those are all from their days in the white house. But is that all there is? What about the GOP appointed prosecutor, and Rove super-buddy, Tim Griffen, whom Bush installed in Arkansas as part of the prosecutor firing scandal? Could he have been installed to try to dig up more dirt about the Clintons? Do you want to roll the dice that he didn't manage find anything new?
And what about this story (quoted above) from last year that did not get nearly the attention it deserved? The article reminds us that the Secret Service who have been following both the Clintons around for the last eight years reports directly to Clinton-arch-nemesis, whitewater prosecutor, and homeland security chief, Michael Chertoff. For the past eight years, "Records [have been] maintained showing where they go and whom they meet."
Though Secret Service records are supposed to be closely held secrets, a source close to the Clintons told me that it is believed that senior Republicans have received regular briefings about movements of the Clintons that might prove embarrassing if released during the general election campaign.
Superdelegates, this is what you have to ask yourselves: Do you want to choose what's behind door number one, the candidate whose biggest scandal is that one of his Illinois fundraisers might be corrupt? Or do you want to roll the dice with door number two, and bet that neither Hillary nor Bill did anything, nor met with anyone in the last eight years that the Republicans might just be chomping at the bit to expose in the general election? And do you want to bet also that the Rove-installed prosecutor did not uncover anything incriminating in Arkansas?
I know who I'm putting my money on.
* Since we're quoting SNL these days.

Who the hell do you think you are?
You come in here, make this long, drawn out post explaining all the things Hillary has to answer for, and you don't even bother to bash Obama.
What the hell are you doing, doing the MSM's job for them? Why are YOU asking actual questions about Hillary's claims, and they aren't? Huh???
:)
More seriously - fantastic post. If even ONE article like this came out in a newspaper, it would do alot to actually make this a fair election. Yet we hear what... complete silence.
Now that Obama has gone on the offensive, I've been paying particular attention to the large media outlets - WaPo, NYT, CNN.
They've all fallen silent on the Democratic primary, except for small stories about delegate counts. They know they've been had and they're frozen.
It sickens me.

No article like this would ever show up in a mainstream publication because... this is complete nonsense.
Seriously... the notion that the secret service has shared embarassing information about the Clintons with the Republicans is about as retarded as any of the "Vince Foster was murdered" stories from the 1990s.
Pathetic.

Only one office has access to the Clinton's records during the time Bill was in office: The office of the President.
Now, I wonder what party the sitting President belongs to...

One of the my nightmares of Hillary winning the nomination will be all of the stories of Bill's penis that will be thrust upon us. Does anyone really believe he has kept Little Willie in his pants while he has been living solo in New York? If Hillary pulls off a miracle things are going to be ugly.
Back in the 90's Democrats and some independents would rally behind the Clintons. Now that over half of that base has seen the Clintons for the lying narcissists that they are, there will be no rally this time.

One of the things that really bothers me about the article I linked to is the fact that it implies the Clintons know that the GOP probably has new, hitherto undisclosed dirt on them (whether legitimate political dirt or just penis-related dirt) and they are willing to risk that, and force all of us to risk that, for a shot at getting back in the white house. They know that Obama has a cleaner record than they do, but they don't care; they'll take him down by innuendo ("he's not an al Qaeda operative, as far as I know...") for an opportunity to lose in November.

Whatn do you mean "cleaner" record? I mean, what if Bill has had affairs either in the past or right now. You some kind of prude?

I wish you hadn't used the word "thrust." Bad imagery.

Dirtbags of all kinds do get elected in spite of their records. George Bush was despite an appalling record of corrupt business dealings and other misconduct.
Still I know of nothing in George's record as clearcut as Hillary's miracle cattle futures profits.
Not too many saints run for office and few of those suspected of sainthood do well. Ralph Nader is one. Paul Simon somehow overcame the jinx but Paul Simon was a rare jewel. Another Chicagoan is attempting the impossible.
Lady MacBeth carries far more baggage than most and no, it has nothing at all to do with Lewinsky. That pathetic young intern somehow blots out the sunlight for Hillary's fans. Lewinsky did far more for both Clintons than give hubby blow jobs.
Sad. Very sad.
Best, Terry

The beauty of it - is that we need not rehash the old Clinton hits. So much fresh water to tread.
Anyone else smelling the obvious 'protest too 3-sides-of-mouthly' re Tax Returns - there's def there there - hence the Ken Starr return bomb (I mean firecracker) - a nerve has been hit - just keep tapping the vein.
Clinton library & fdtn donors... hmmm
I live in Harlem - so Bill's happy hours stretching into hard days nights have tremendous potential...
Burkle partnership gone sour - former bff who facilitated enrichment & Bill's bi-coastal wanderings while Hil safely tucked away in D.C. or Chappaqua...
W/holding the '1st Lady Papers' - puzzling - while making an exp arg that incl that era...
$5mil Loan to campaign - floated ever so gently in the midst of 'they knew it'd get lost' in Supe-Dupe-Tues-smoke...
And I'm looking for help in digging out the Marian Wright Edelman story - since Hil used CDF stint as claim to be lover of children & founder of all sainted things grassroots - why has her mentor been so silent re protege for years now? I've only heard allusions to source of rift & MWE too classy to inject herself into campaign - but there's also there there...
And - since they did raise the Starr conspiracy - suppose we can replay the oldies-but-goodies -just to regurgitate the nice bile taste left from their 1st WH stint for the electorate.
O has tried as hard as he might to not go down this road - but after months of their turd-hurling, it's time to engage.
So much to mine - plenty of time...

Former Senator Bob Kerrey once remarked that Bill Clinton was "a really good liar." But Bill can't hold a candle to HRC. After all, he got busted for not telling the truth under oath, paid a $90,000 fine and was disbarred for 5 years. HRC knows how to lie with impunity. Read the Whitewater report on the Rose law firm billing records--the ones that mysteriously reappeared under a table in the WH. HRC lied about how she got the client (through McDougal)and the unlawful stuff she did for it. People lost their investments as a result. She lied to the Resolution Trust Co and to the prosecutors. The evidence is overwhelming, including Vince Foster's handwriting circling suspect entries on the bill, but she got away with it. HRC is a really, really good liar!

I suspect she doesn't even know when she's lying (which, incidentally, is one sign of a sociopath, but I'm not calling her a sociopath).
If you present her with two directly contradictory statements she's made, she starts in on "what she ACTUALLY meant..". Probably the most famous instance here was her vacillating on NAFTA.. she actually had the gall during the Ohio debate to say she never praised NAFTA, at which point Tim Russert read one of her quotes directly praising NAFTA. To which she replied with "well, what I meant was..."
She can never just say "Yep, I was wrong." To me, being able to admit mistakes is the sign of a good leader. It shows a willingness to take responsibility for mistakes and more importantly, a willingness to correct them. THAT is what solves problems - not assertions of being a fighter.
