Wright's 'bites

First of all, allow me to state that I am ignorant. I have not read any of Wright's full sermons, I don't know much about his long career, nor do I know much about what good his church has done.

Unfortunately, I have been exposed to a lot of Wright sound bites.

Luckily enough, I have enough diversity in my background to imagine some of the context around those sound bites, but I really can't imagine justifying all of them (nor can Obama, evidently).

All of this has been said before by numerous people here at TPM. My new 2 cents is that what if people did the same thing to the Bible that they did to Wright? Could one create just as offensive a list of "sound" bites? Obviously the answer is yes, as anyone who has listened to Richard Dawkins knows. (Although I'm an atheist who finds some of what Dawkins says quite interesting, I do not approve of his antagonistic approach towards religion.)

So, what of it? For those religious folk who have been tearing into Wright's 'bites, do you understand that your religious book of choice has just as many offensive bits in it, especially if you choose to take them out of context?
