Will We Lose Another Election Because Our Party is Being Absurd?

avatar

It simply astounds me that there are people stating that if their candidate (either Hillary or Obama) doesn't win that they will either not vote in the general election or they will vote for McCain.  Are we destined to lose another election and suffer 4 - 8 more years of the Iraq War, increasing abuse of our Constitution, a deeper economic crisis, a man with a temper so hot that even his OWN party members are fearful of the thought of him in the Oval Office and further deterioration of our country's reputation in the world opinion?

How can ANY person who is a Democrat or an Independent that even leans slightly towards the progressive side of things reasonably and rationally contemplate voting for McSame? Have they learned nothing from the past 7 years?  Are they really wanting things to continue as they are and get worse? Are they wanting to see if McCain will further commit us to Iraq rather than trying to extract us which he has said he will?  Are they really wanting to see if we can push things so far with Iran that we finally end up in another war that we can't afford financially let alone the cost in human lives?  Are they really wanting to turn over an economy already deeply in crisis to a man who admits he doesn't know much about the economy?

Anyone who has complained about the Bush Administration and then goes on to vote for McCain is a disgrace and a hypocrite.  Even Bush acknowledges that McCain will continue his policies.

So grow up, get over your childish bickering as to whom is better, Hillary or Obama, and do the right thing come November. Vte for the Democratic Nominee so that this Country finally has a chance to turn things around.

Ask around. There are people who threaten rioting in Denver if the superdelegates don't sign off on the "pledged delegate lead" meme.

yet again Lalo places the halo of perfection around HRC supporters who have no "memes" and who have only said (25%) that they will not vote for Obama.

Who again are supposed to be the cultists?

We have one meme: if you like the DNC rules on MI/FL, then you must also like the DNC rules on superdelegates and the convention vote. But you seem to be in favor of cherry picking.

Folks are emotional, but time is the wiser one amongst us. Don't forget that McCain hasn't even begun his official campaign against a Democratic nominee, and the multiple GOP groups supporting him are quietly priming up their hateful YouTube premieres! It's a case of calm before the storm, folks...

Nah, don't worry. Clinton and Obama have very similar issues but very different styles. Whoever wins (and I hope and pray it's Obama), we'll all be there fighting against 100 more years in Iraq.

Amen. I am an Obama supporter and have never posted here. But let me say this. I will fight tooth and nail for him to be the nominee. I think he has more integrity, better judgement, and is an all around better candidate than Clinton. I am angry about the tactics employed by the Clinton campaign, in particular the choice to plump up McCain as a better option than Obama. But I will happily vote for Clinton over McCain. HAPPILY. The Republicans don't like government. I do. I like it when the streets are fixed, when the police protect me, when the meat I eat is safe. Not to mention ... Supreme Court anyone?

Nikole: "How can ANY person who is a Democrat or an Independent that even leans slightly towards the progressive side of things reasonably and rationally contemplate voting for McSame?"

Simple: if they're not really a Democrat or an Independent that even leans slightly towards the progressive side of things.

And this is yet another reason why this extended campaign is healthy for the party and especially progressives: it's a golden opportunity to do some in-house cleaning.

McCain doesn't have a prayer. Truly. I asked God, and she said she'd never heard of him. Joking aside, McCain doesn't have a prayer. So, why not take this golden opportunity to do some in-house cleaning?

I really wish some of us would do more of our thinking out of the box. You may not have noticed, but Obama's is an out-of-the-box candidacy. It will succeed to the extent it continues to think and to act like one.

In-house cleaning isn't usually a good thing. Don't we want as many people voting with us as possible?

Once, again. It is a mistake to extrapolate from what one reads here and on other political sites. After all, those of us who frequent political sites are a very small slice of the electorate.

Besides, who's to say that those posting such nonsense as you cite are democrats to begin with.

As primary campaigns go this one has been pretty tame and come November democrats and lots of "independents" will line up behind the nominee.
