Why Pat Buchanan is an Idiot
After reading PJB's recent article located here, http://buchanan.org/blog/?p=969, I lost all hope for my father’s generation. I no longer think they are our strongest generation. I think they are weak. Weak minded, weak willed. They are unable to do the hard work required to heal our nation. They were more than willing to perpetuate stereotypes and discriminate. They worked hard to maintain segregation. They worked hard to inflict mental and physical damage to an entire race of people. But when the next generations are attempting to clean up their mess, they not only don't raise a hand to help, they attempt to sabotage our efforts.
Through out his article, Mr. Buchanan deliberately misleads the reader with his talking points. He points to programs like Medicaid, Pell Grants, student loans, and Section 8 housing as aids to black Americans as if they are the only ones who can and do use these services. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Almost every white student I went to college with took advantage of student loans and grants. Surely I'm not an anomaly. As a former Public Health nurse living in a predominantly white county, I can assure you that based simply on our numbers, there are large numbers of white people on Medicaid, food stamps, and WIC. That would make his points racist.
The prevailing theme of the article seems to be "get over it already". With his laundry list of perceived good deeds done for "black folks", beginning with (and I'm not joking) slavery. You heard me right. Yes, slavery was a boon for black people. They should even stop being ungrateful and say "thank you". Without slavery African Americans would not enjoy the bounty that is America.
It is obvious by his statements and overall attitude on cable news programs, that Mr. Buchanan views racism as a long dead phenomenon that deserves as much attention as Mike Gravels candidacy. Oh, if only that were true.
If that were true then my eleven year old biracial son wouldn't have come into my bedroom last week to ask why a teenager would tell him, "All black people are niggers and deserve to be killed". With tears streaming down his cheeks, he asked my why anyone would say that.
If that were true my seven year old biracial daughter wouldn't have had her glasses knocked off, her face spit in and been told "Only black people do that” when she tried to do a headstand on the playground.
If that were true I wouldn't have to write this blog

That is a horrible indictment of an entire generation, call me old fashioned but that just ain't right.
As if you needed to list any reasons why that walking colostomy bag is an idiot.

I also needed the Pell grants, Medicaid (MediCal), food stamps, and tons of student loans to get my education. I would have needed section 8 housing if the university had not arranged an equivalent, student housing. Hey wait a minute, I'm not a minority either, FUCK PAT BUCHANAN!

Great article!
Yes, Pat Buchanan is an idiot. Certifiable. I hate tuning into MSNBC any more. In large measure, because of him. His comments are the ravings of a mad man.
His reactions to the Pastor Wright flap are the last straw. He has repeatedly castigated Sen. Obama for sitting in church for 20 years listening to the rantings of his pastor spewing hate speech, & not walking out. Somehow, Buchanan knows what Rev. Wright was saying over a 20 year period from two sound bites that have been broadcast. It's just unfathomable that he could make such a statement. Buchanan obviously has no knowledge what Rev. Wright said or didn't say in the 20 years that Sen. Obama has been a member of this congregation.
One of the first people I heard publicly oppose this war in Iraq was Patrick Buchanan. His instincts are isolationist on foreign policy. He didn't even want us in World War II. But despite this sane impulse to oppose the war, he nonetheless supports our continued involvement. Like his former mentor, Pres. Nixon, he insists on "peace with honor". He advocates continued loss of life by American service men & women so that the lives already sacrificed will mean something. The illogic is simply astounding!
I heard Buchanan's immediate reaction to Sen. Obama's speech on race last week. With some reservations, he called it a great speech. Since then his comments about the speech have become increasingly negative. He should have listened to his inner voice. His initial instincts were the correct ones. His initial instincts to oppose the war were the correct ones. Somehow he can't help but muck up the good instincts that come into his mind & heart from his better angels. The more he thinks & talks about issues, the worse he gets. What a shame.

workingclasszero, I appreciate your opinion. I tell you what, when Obama starts pulling even with Hillary in those 60 and over, I'll apologize.

Look, I understand the frustration with the rambling pointless stories and the pureed everything and all.
But seriously they are a product of their time and haven't experienced anything remotely like Obama since, what, FDR?
This can be a tectonic change for some and folks will either accept change or (not trying to be crass) die off.
Remember there really is wisdom to be found in that generation. Just some bland food for thought.

The "die off" theory has occurred to me. Believe it or not I had it in my post and then chickened out. Thought I sounded like I was promoting some type of elder genocide.
I might sound bitter because I am. There are several people of this generation that I have(and continue to )loved. My disappointment is painful. I guess PJB ignited my ire toward elements in this group and I lost my prospective. Thanks for keeping me honest.
