Tweety: McCain's Moral Edge
The ever pandering Tweety continues to make a joke of the BBC program 'Hardtalk' from which his show derives its' name.
As he was closing a segment a little bit ago he remarked on McCain's
POW nightmare (I'll give him that) and then said something like. 'I think that gives him MORAL EDGE over a lot of us and we show it.'.
I guess you'll have to ask some of us veterans who aren't blinded the
chest full of medals. Those of us - veteran and otherwise who are
familiar with his voting record on veteran affairs, for example.
Maybe that's why he was able to rip Kerry for his (albeit stupid) 2006
gaffe days before the mid-terms. Surely, he must have thought - "no one
will ever suspect I have been dicking veteran's benefits left and right
while Kerry has been helping them extensively all along".
But that was exactly the case as he demeaned Kerry in 2006 and through
to today - his record on Veteran issues is abysmal - and that's being
charitable. In fact, on the whole - in almost every measure, even the
lowest scoring Democrat in Congress score as well or better than the
highest scoring Republican.
Here is a nice synopsis
Disabled American Veterans
Key Votes - McCain Scores 28%
Key Votes - Obama Scores 92%
Key Votes - Clinton Scores 93%
Vietnam Veterans of America
Key Votes - McCain Scores 37%
Key Votes - Obama Scores 92%
Key Votes - Clinton Scores 88%
IAVA graded McCain a D, Obama a B+ and
Clinton an A-
Obama was not in the Senate for the earliest votes used in some of the scores, Hillary not for the earliest in one of them.
In no case were less than 14 votes counted.
Not long ago Moral McCain had this nifty Washington quote for a group of veteran's he was speaking to:
"The
willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war,
no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they
perceive veterans of early wars were treated and appreciated by our
nation."
Here's something he said while addressing the 108th Convention of the VFW (last August):
"The Walter Reed scandal
recalled, I hope, not just government but the public who elected it,
to our responsibilities to the men and women who risked life and limb
to meet their responsibilities to us. Such a disgrace is unworthy of
the greatest nation on earth. As the greatest leaders in our history,
George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, instructed us, care for
Americans who fought to defend us should rank among the highest of
national priorities."
The really god-awful thing is that on two of the votes, less than 10
Senators voted against the issue presented, one had only 5 dissenters
and the other 7, he of course was one of the select reprehensible few
in both cases.
Oh - yeah Rethuglicans - the party that supports our brave soldiers - makes me wanna barf...
