The Son Also Rises

It is quite interesting to sit back and look at people's character and hence observe their methods. In the latter segment of this race we have had several shots at the character and general persona of both Obama and Clinton.

I have noted that they have unique approaches to how they handle the "back against the wall" situations. For instance, when Hillary gets her back trapped against that wall, she comes out fighting. She goes on the attack, throws in some low blows and shoves her opponent to the other side of the ring. Some in the press labels has as a fighter. Someone who bulldogs her way back to her spot in the ring and keeps fighting. We have seen her style throughout the campaign.

I have also noted Obama's approach when his back gets jabbed against the wall. He takes a calculated pause and rather than come out swinging, he simply rises. We have seen this when he was under attack during that Bill Clinton debacle earlier in the year, it was again seen recently in the Texas election cycle and now its being portrayed again in this Wright situation. He simply rises.

I have read hundreds of posts where supporters are begging him to come out swinging, go negative, attack her on her past.. etc.. etc. He never seems to listen to these requests. He takes pause and then rises.

He did just this again yesterday with his speech in response to the Wright and other issues. He simply came to the fore without as much as a single punch. No one, in their right mind, can say that his speech was anything other than brilliant. Just about every media outlet proclaims such. It has left the Hillary crew speechless. Obama rose again yesterday.

I am not sure what these approaches from two great candidates says but its interesting how they handle "back against the wall" situations. Seems to me like Obama would be the calming influence in the middle of a crisis while Hillary might be a little offset by the intensity of the event. I am not sure!

Maybe you have a better perspective than I do on these two unique approaches.

It's interesting you point this out, and I think, hit the nail on the head.

I know that one of the reasons people have given for voting for Clinton is that she's a "fighter". Personally, I think the last thing we need right now. I think what this country needs is someone who actually considers all sides of an argument, stays cool and level-headed at all times, and does just as you say: rises above it.

That's my take on it anyway.

I agree with you completely. While I do respect Hillary's fighting spirit, I believe there is a time and place for both styles and right now the U.S. needs a the strength of a peacemaker.

I think yesterday Barack showed how this is a strength we cannot underestimate in the face of adversity.

I would also prefer to see Barack making these tours to the middle East instead of McCain. I don't know if you have seen the images of McCain with King Abdullah II of Jordan but if you have, would you not agree that they all seemed so tense, stiff and formal? (granted these types of meetings usually are)

However, for just one moment please try to imagine Barack seated with King Abdullah II of Jordan. Although he is a U.S. ally don't you still get a sense that he would feel more inclined to speak highly of Barack after meeting him and getting to know him, to other middle eastern allies? Who knows where that could lead...?

I see Barack's presence, charisma, goodwill, intelligence and peacemaking skills much more advantageous to reshaping the U.S.'s image overseas than either McCain or Clinton.
