The Race Factor in OH and PA
Unfortunately, as a so-called 'wine-track' child of a 'beer-track' family, I note underlying racial concerns as a factor in resistance to Obama in OH and states like it. As pointed out earlier by some of the talking heads, Obama tends
to win whites across class lines so far only in states less
ethnically diverse like IA and WI. In states like MA and OH
where blue-collar whites live in proximity and cultural tension with
other ethnicities they are not breaking for him. A similar
working-class ethnic tension was clearly at play with Hispanics in TX.
Its ugly and disappointing to me, but as a child of white, blue-collar
'Reagan Democrats' I understand that it is going to be a difficult, though not insurmountable, challenge to win over blue-collar whites from Hillary in big, industrial, diverse states. He is going to have to meet this challenge in PA.
