The Hillary Deathwatch is up on Slate

"In the tradition of Slate's Saddameter (gauging the likelihood of invading Iraq), the Clintometer (measuring the chances of a Lewinsky-related ousting), and the Gonzo-meter (charting the attorney general's demise), we bring you the Hillary Deathwatch, a daily update on Hillary Clinton's dwindling chances of winning the Democratic nomination."

From Slate.com:

"Hillary Clinton is as good as dead. This became the consensus over the past week, when the media awoke en masse to the dual reality that 1) Clinton can't close the pledged-delegate gap and 2) Obama has her beat in the popular vote. But the Clinton campaign shows no signs of slowing—she said herself she's prepared to compete for at least three more months. So the question now is not just "How dead is she?" but "When will she realize it?"

Oddly, while I see the humor, I tend to think things like this do more harm than good.

I can't help but wonder if the media aren't just setting themselves up for yet another round of comeback kid narrative. I mean, most people seem to be in agreement that Clinton will take Pennsylvania. The question seems to be what the margins will be, but if she takes it by a large margin then will we be forced to endure another week of "The Clintons came back from the edge again!!!" ?

File this under "Incredibly Likely".

Hey, I don't make the news, I just cherry-pick the items that make the trolls howl. :-)

I don't buy the "big-margin" hype from the Hillary camp. It's like all of the other false info they keep dealing in. Personally, I think that playing out the rest of the primaries is in many ways a good thing. Obama's grass-roots network is on the ground and spreading throughout Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Indiana and elsewhere. This is of nothing but benefit for his campaign, as the enthusiam to keep him on top is maintained and amplified. If the primary were to end right now, that enthusiasm would be lulled somewhat. The Clinton camapaign continues to be a good sparring partner, and Obama gets more polished in his ability to fend off attacks each day. And finally, anything that gets the Hillary base riled up to keep fighting up to the PA primary lets us Pennsylvanians have a chance to get working toward handing Obama a surprise victory on the 22nd! It's a win-win situation.

Terry Schiavo's (sp?) loving husband was eventually allowed to have her 'plug pulled,' even though her parents insisted she was actually responsive and even smiling at them in recognition.

Of course, the Republicans tried to prevent that even with attempted legislation and bogus testimony as to her true condition which evidently eluded them!

Mercy! more mercy!

Bill Frist "pulled the plug" on his own presidential aspirations. Hillary has been taken down by her own sniper fire. Is there some pattern here?

yes, those 'blessings in disguise' really do make it all worthwhile!

and Hillary's patrons and those so heavily invested in her need plenty of time to absorb their losses and to learn how they were misled, I suppose, before they're able and willing to re-invest in a more viable representative!

Providing them with what they need most -- extended time for a more comprehensive and sufficiently prolonged opportunity to learn to deal in reality -- is probably the kindest allowance we might afford them. We shouldn't risk putting them in shock!

And with our abundant and rapidly increasing wealth, it would be a shame not to give generously to such a needy cause.

Eventually they'll realize that it's wisest to support a living candidate who clearly demonstrates his winning ability to be in touch with reality and most of us as well.

Look, the man is a licensed physician. He's completely qualified to make remote diagnoses via video tape.

I just got back from a viewing down at the funeral home. The lady in the box has the same chance of resuming her housekeeping as Senator Clinton has of resuming her residence in the White House. But you gotta admire that determination!

Hoppy, that's harsh! LOL!

I always marvel at how these threads can diverge...

Personally, I'd like to see Hillary continue her campaign well into next year. There's no reason she should give up just because she doesn't end up with the nomination. Wait. Forget I said that:
