The DNC, Michigan and Florida

Howard Dean was on NPR today (see the update at the bottom of the post). He was unequivocal that the delegates would not be seated by the DNC and that, in effect, the delegates would not be seated if Obama is ahead because Obama's delegates would control the committee that would vote on seating them. A do-over is possible - although there are no negotiations presently.

Note: I listen to NPR, I drive a prius, but I do not drink lattes.

Thanks for the full disclosure, Brent. :)

My wife drinks lattes so I guess that makes me qualified to manage a Starbucks, right?

I heard the same report and I was quite pleased to hear Dean stick to his guns. I was also pleased to hear him say that the Democrats are ready to deploy effective campaigns in all 50 states. That was inspiring and filled me with HOPE. But I guess they were just words.

I am very glad he said that.

I have no problem with a do-over. I'm less okay with the Committee approving the delegate seating, but the rules provide for it, so I'll accept it. I can't disparage Hillary for wanting to break the rules, and then get upset at the rules when they don't suit me.

I will not be happy, however, with Hillary strongarming anyone into seating the delegates, which is what they seem to want - none of their "seat the delegates!" rhetoric mentions anything about appealing to the Committee or re-voting. No, the want the delegates seated as-is, the one situation the rules do not provide for.

Now let's just see if Dean has the cojones to stand by his statement when Hillary's political machine comes down on his head.

Ah! Thanks for the tip, Brent. Discussion on this topic is raging on TPM reader blogs tonight. I'll definitely listen to that.

DF, it wasn't full disclosure, you know. Brent didn't say anything about his trust fund or his Birkenstocks!

:-p

Hmm.. apparently I was remiss in performing my due diligence.. D'oh!

I apologize for the omission. No trust fund and no Birkenstocks - though there is always hope.

Whether there is a do-over or not, those delegates will be seated because no democratic candidate can get elected without Michigan and Florida. The DNC cannot afford to alienate these state parties - they need the machines and the money.

"Hello, my name is Sean Madden, and I listen to NPR.

I also watch football, drink beer, and play computer games.

Oh, yeah, and I'm an Obama supporter."
