The Descent of Daily Kos into Self-Parody

avatar

A reference in a recent article by Josh to the “loonier blogs” makes me wonder how much longer TPM will continue to link to Daily Kos.  Unfortunately, “loony” is the best way to describe the current Daily Kos on a good day.  As a recovering Kossack, I’m appalled by the rapid deterioration of the quality of analysis and expression on a site that at one time could have become the vanguard of a new progressive movement.

There seems to be a Gresham's Law of blogging, with shouters driving away conversationalists. Sort of a Tragedy of the Commons.

As in that process, it can be prevented if there are rewards for cooperators and penalties for cheaters. Note the lack of penalty here.

Um, Daily Kos is loonier than, say, TPM Cafe/Election Central?

Really?

Um, Daily Kos is loonier than, say, TPM Cafe/Election Central?

Really?

I object!

No place is loonier than we are.

I must be missing something? Please cite some loony bits from Daily Kos or here or other "loony liberal blogs" and lets compare them to most of what passes for "serious journalism."

Are you kidding me? Have you READ a post by Desidero?

It's a purely academic exercise, to see if you can ferret out what, if anything, is actually being said. All in all, I wouldn't recommend it.

Examples?

I think the operative phrase: "recovering Kossack" is the clue in this post.

Ahem.

I quit visiting KOS about a year ago, as I found it uninformative and shrill. Though I wouldn't call it loony.

I find TPM informative and even handed, though I do find the reader posts to be primarily folks trying to count political coup and posting information that has already been well publicized.

Hey, did anyone happen to notice at what point this reader blog descended into self-parody?
