Shorter David Ignatius
Obama is teh sux rofl!!
Seriously, it looks like the only thing here that's thin is the article. Eight pages' worth of bipartisan achievements doesn't sound very thin to me, especially when Ignatius says nothing about Hillary's supposedly super awesome list of bipartisan legislation.
Also, if Obama is really the vote-dodger he's being made out to be, Ignatius could cite more than one example and more than one nameless Democratic senator who has his/her doubts. If there's really something there, then show a series of dodged votes that can establish a pattern of "missing in action". Not one missed vote because he was halfway across the country at the time.
Damn it.

Iganatius is applying a false standard to Obama. He's saying "working with the other side" doesn't count. It only counts if you offend your own party's base in order to work with the other side.
Ironically, this is something that I fear a president Obama would do. But that's another argument for another time.
What Ignatius wants out of a unity president is somebody who will stand up to his or her party base. I think that what Democratic primary voters are saying is something else -- that we're willing to make minor compromises with Republicans in pursuit of our base goals.
Obama, or Clinton for that matter shouldn't feel obligated to stand up to the base of the Democratic party. They should be trying to represent that base.

Yeah, that was basically what I got from his piece. All that he counts are "battle scars."
I agree with on the pursuit of goals. In my estimation, the DLC philosophy has failed by foregoing reaching across the aisle in favor of picking up the party and moving it across the aisle.
Interestingly, I see Obama in exactly the opposite way. :)
If Clinton hadn't already pissed of a large portion of the liberal base by triangulating so heavily toward the center, Obama would have no room to work right now.
Will Obama do the same thing? Perhaps, but I'm hoping that he will prove to be better at sticking to his guns and upholding liberal principles instead of taking the tack of GOP-lite.

As the Very Serious Mr. Ignatius so brilliantly shows us, you can prove any point you like by simply ignoring the facts. It's easy and some will even call it "journalism."
Looks like a win-win, you have to do no work and get no criticism. Except from dirty bloggers, and Lord knows, they don't count.
