Both sides are getting strange calls from the other side. Apparently the state Democratic party messed up the rolls, getting some crossed.
Calm down. It's good for your heart.

How do you know that what is shown is even for real anyway? Why is this person just randomly sitting around with a video camera trained on her. Is she filming a reality show or something?
Also, he never asked her to switch. He seemed to keep saying that him having her name was a mistake. When she asked if she should go for Obama he said "no."

Lalo go cry now. Bad man Obama make her sad.
Must be the oh so insightful analysis you seem to offer with your posts of links.

If that pisses you off you are living in an alternate reality. Obama delegates have gotten robocalls from Clinton, Clinton delegates calls from Obama.
I did calls to Texas for Obama and at first we had only a list of all delegates - not even who they were supporting. So we screened and did NOT attempt to change their minds and did not deceive them. Just like the caller in this video did NOT.
And I am sure the Clinton robocalls were generated in the same way - incomplete information coming out of the Texas Democratic party which both campaigns used to contact delegates.
But if you want to live in your reality, enjoy it.

I think that one should approach unsubstantiated and unsubstantiable claims made on the internet with a certain modicum of skepticism.

Err... holy crap, understatement of history of the bloody universe.

Indeed. This video is silly for several reasons.

I hereby nominate Greg's comment for understatement of the decade.

I heard him tell her no when she asked if she should go for Obama also. But I am sure that this is the double super secret bamboozle, okie dokie that only Senator Clinton supporters can understand.

Uhh.. okay, so aside from the fact that this is the Internet and we have no way of knowing whether this is completely staged.. let's assume that it's not.
So, she calls the Obama campaign. They have her listed as a delegate. So.. what? Couldn't this have been some kind of mistake? She even says that apparently the caucus was crazy and doesn't even seem to be entirely certain that she properly signed up for Clinton. Even so, if she's not actually an Obama delegate then what in the hell does it matter that the Obama campaign somehow has her down as a delegate? If she follows through then how is this relevant?
Not that anyone should take this at face value anyway.

Video looks fake.
Who sets up a camera when they get a phone call.
Very gullible stuff.
March 29, 2008 10:47 PM | Reply | Permalink
Technically, the video notes say that she called the campaign. We also don't get to hear what she told this guy to get him to this point in the conversation, what name she gave, whether that's her real name, etc, etc, etc
Nothing to see here.

I thought so :)
Mostly, I had just finished watching Derailed, which if you haven't seen it is one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen... so I needed to do something to amuse myself :)

Not that anyone should take this at face value, but I read somewhere that the rolls did get messed up. A friend of mine is an Obama delegate and got a call and an email from the Hillary campaign (inviting them to a conference call with Bill!), and there were reports of others as well. So, in other words, if you decide this was the Obama campaign acting maliciously, then you must also decide the Hillary campaign was, too, and then you have no crook left for whom to vote. I look forward to either your retraction or your announcement that you will not vote for Hillary.

Something tells me that Lalo intends to vote for the crook on the Straight Talk Express. Just a hunch.
March 29, 2008 11:21 PM | Reply | Permalink
Yeah. I think so too. I've tried to rationally and respectfully read and respond to Lalo's posts and comments when possible (for instance, I appreciated reading his views about why Clinton supporters feel resentment at Obama and his campaign); unfortunately, I am beginning to believe the struggle to address Lalo's complaints and criticisms reasonably is becoming futile.
I hope I'm wrong about that.

I caucused in Texas on March 4 and conventioned with my county today. It is simply not believable that a Clinton or Obama delegate could somehow be tricked into being a delegate for the other candidate.
Seriously. How confused and foggy would a person have to be to somehow get duped into caucusing for hours today at county Democratic Party conventions for the wrong candidate?? Oopsy!
Oh, brother.

That definitely happened in our precinct. Somebody pointed out that someone who had come to our Obama meeting last week was listed on the Texas Democratic website as a Clinton delegate. The precinct captain went to the rolls and said that they'd switched one Obama and one Clinton supporter. The site gave a number where you could inform them of mistakes, and by the time of the convention they had corrected it.
But continue to imagine that Obama personally told people to call up Clinton delegates and tell them they were Obama delegates. Just ask yourself this: how on earth would that help him, especially before the county convention, since the Clinton supporters would still vote for other Clinton delegates to move forward unless they were really not very committed to their candidate?

As my daughter used to say when she was three:
"Now you make me sad and cry!"
Will you Clintonistas ever learn that whining from a 60 year old is NOT attractive?

Lalo and Airwon,
I live in Texas. I caucused at my precinct on March 4 and attended my county's Democratic Party convention today.
This video is stupid. And this woman on the video doesn't even make sense.
Here's why the video is stupid:
1) Everyone who caucused on March 4 was very clear about who their presidential preference was. It's ridiculous to think that voters who took the trouble to caucus are going to get confused later about whom they caucused for.
2) Even if this was an actual video of a person from the Obama campaign calling a Clinton delegate, it does not appear that the person on the other end was trying to trick her in to "switching" to Obama. The woman jumped to that conclusion even after the man said no, she shouldn't caucus for Obama. This is the part that doesn't make sense.
3) At the convention today, we precinct caucus delegates had to (once again) prove our eligibility to participate in this Democratic Party process, and (once again) declare our presidential preference. Then, we met with our entire precinct delegation (both Clinton and Obama delegates) because we would be required to caucus ALL TOGETHER as a group to select the ENTIRE PRECINCT'S delegates for the state convention. We ALL sat together at the convention for a few hours before we were allowed to caucus and select our state delegates. During the hours of sitting together, or during the caucus when we selected our precinct's Clinton and Obama delegates to the state convention, if any Clinton delegates had "switched" sides, it would have become glaringly obvious and would have drawn immediate scrutiny from other delegates for the precinct. If anyone had been duped or tricked (again, I cannot believe that this could even be possible) into claiming a presidential preference they didn't really want, it would be revealed and rectified while at the county convention.
Lalo, if you and Airwon want to seize on this video as proof that Obama and his campaign are evil, go ahead. (Where did this thing come from anyway?)
But I think you're being foolish.

Congrats on being a convention delegate, Laura! Are you going to blog about your day? Sounds like it was an arduous experience, to say the least. Thanks for your support today!!

Thanks, GMan!
I don't know if I'll blog about it--there's not much to tell, except it was FUN! Lots of Democratic Party speakers getting everyone pumped up, and emphasizing Democratic Party solidarity once the primaries are over.
I think there was GREAT turnout for county conventions statewide today. That's great news for the Texas Democratic Party.
And my county, Travis County, had more delegates in attendance today than any of the state conventions have ever had. I was selected to go to the Texas Democratic Party's convention in June, and I can't wait to see how many folks turn out for that!
Yeehaw!! Texas is turnin' blue!! :-D

Congrats on being a state delegate! That's awesome. Just make sure that if someone calls you up and tells you you are a Clinton delegate that you don't get confused and accidentally vote for her :)

Whoa, you're a delegate? That's awesome. From what I've seen here, I'd say you're a good choice.

Thanks, boo and DF!
boo, were you at the Travis County convention? Could you believe the traffic and the lines??? Whoa!
We had a great time. And Clinton folks and Obama folks appeared to get along just fine. We definitely did in my precinct, anyway.
The convention was PACKED! For a look at the great crowd attending, check out the following link:

I'll assume for the moment that the video wasn't faked by someone anti-Hillary to make her and her campaign look bad.
I'll further assume that it was produced by someone anti-Obama.
The only "evidence" against Obama is the woman's allegation of wrong-doing and her assertion that it reflects on Obama.
The preying expectation with which she listens, hoping to hear something the poor bugger on the other end of the line might say, but never does, is telling.
As is her smugness when he finally hangs up on her.
I would not want to be associated with someone like this.
I was listening to KPFA's Flashpoints programme on Friday. One of the guests was investigative reporter, Robert Perry.
http://consortiumnews.com.
Robert explained how Lee Atwater had helped elect the first Bush. Understanding that there was little to be done about raising Bush's favourability ratings, the objective became that of lowering the favourability ratings of Dukakis, who held a 17-percent lead in early public opinion polls.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Atwater
Atwater —> Rove —> Clintons — this has become part of the Clintons' legacy.
