People are failing to comprehend just how premeditated and Cheney-esque Hillary Clinton's Bosnia lie was. Click here, and I'll explain.
People are failing to comprehend just how premeditated and Cheney-esque Hillary Clinton's Bosnia lie was.
Lets look at the timeline...
Sinbad's comments to the Washington Post on March 10th, calling into question Hillary's earlier accounts of the plane trip, created a ruckus as soon as they were published, and news of them spread throughout the news media and blogoshere almost immediately.
The Clinton campaign HAD to be aware of the new-found-doubt of Hillary's version of events, that was raised by the Sinbad story
From this point, THEY HAD SEVEN DAYS before Hillary Clinton's March 17th speech at George Washington University to LOOK INTO THE RECORDS of the flight and the landing ceremonies, both their own and those of news reports, AND CORRECT Clinton's highly erroneous earlier accounts.
But what did they do? Instead, they choose to not only stick with her original story, but actually ramped up its details. This decision was nothing less than an act of 100% premeditaed fraud.
For those of you who have not seen the footage of the March 17th speech, the 1996 CBS news footage of the Tuzla landing ceremony, or read the two Washington Post stories and the subject - you can access all this at the link below

Let's all just remember who got disrespected in all this, folks. Who's reputation is on the line. Who stood up for truth, justice, and the American way. Sinbad.
An open letter to Sinbad:

Excellent blog.
That's the sort of basic investigative journalism and fact checking the MSM won't do. It's too clear cut for them. Not enough wiggle room, controversy, and churn to generate ratings. Facts like those don't require pundits to debate them.
A cool addition to the site would be an option to organize the items them by category, such as "FP experience claims" and "Economic bamboozles" etc.

This is exactly why the super delegates need to step in and end this now--not later. We have Obama supporters attacking Hillary as if she's the Republican candidate. We have Hillary supporters attacking Obama in exactly the same way. Lines are being drawn that will be difficult if not impossible to erase. And the longer this goes on, the less likely it will be that we'll be able to rally the party behind the nominee.
If the super delegates step in now, Hillary's supporters will cry foul. If they do it later, Obama's supporters will do the same. Damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Since that's the case, they should put the party first and step in now. Let's end this nonsense and get down to the difficult business of healing the horrible rift this nasty campaign has opened up.

Facts don’t cease to exist simply because they are ignored.
The fact is the Clinton campaign is increasing relying on lies and distortions to trump up her past experience.
In addition to the bold-faced Bosnia lie, her campaign has exaggerated or outright lied about her involvement in the Family and Medical Leave Act, The SCHIP program, the Northern Ireland Peace accords, the opening of borders in Macedonia, and, perhaps worse of all, her opposition to NAFTA.
How is this NOT a legitimate issue?
Calling attention to facts is not a pissing contest, or nonsense, and there is nothing unfair about it.

Do you really want to continue this pissing contest? For your 100 reasons, Clinton supporters will trump you with ONE reason not to vote Obama: Wright. If Clinton wasn't under sniper fire in Bosnia, the sniping here more than makes up. Are we going to choose the best sniper as our nominee?

Wright is a non-issue to most voters. It's over, Obama is still more popular than Hillary, get over it already!
Hillary supported the Iraq war up until 2006.
She lies about her foreign experience.
Obama has more legislative experience than Hillary (including his time as Illinois Sen.)

"When Wright took the pulpit to give his post-9/11 address -- which has since become boiled down to a five second sound bite about "America's chickens coming home to roost" -- he prefaced his remarks as a "faith footnote," an indication that he was deviating from his sermon.
"I heard Ambassador Peck on an interview yesterday," Wright declared. "He was on Fox News. This is a white man and he was upsetting the Fox News commentators to no end. He pointed out, a white man, an ambassador, that what Malcolm X said when he got silenced by Elijah Muhammad was in fact true: America's chickens are coming home to roost."
Wright then went on to list more than a few U.S. foreign policy endeavors that, by the tone of his voice and manner of his expression, he viewed as more or less deplorable. This included, as has been demonstrated in the endless loop of clips from his sermon, bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki and nuking "far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye."
"Violence begets violence," Wright said, "hatred begets hatred, and terrorism begets terrorism."
And then he concluded by putting the comments on Peck's shoulders: "A white ambassador said that yall, not a black militant, not a reverend who preaches about racism, an ambassador whose eyes are wide open and is trying to get us to wake up and move away from this dangerous precipice... the ambassador said that the people we have wounded don't have the military capability we have, but they do have individuals who are willing to die and take thousands with them... let me stop my faith footnote right there."

Astral66, Those are powerful words. Besides a short clip, I haven't seen any of the videos. And if I saw that, I'd be saying yes to myself. I was aware of the Malcolm X reference and I agree with it. I argued that myself after 9/11. But the Obama/Wright problem is a political one.
Ward Churchill had no defense against the PC onslaught that ran him out of academia. And it is not the snippets of Rev. Wright that are going to haunt Obama (though as source footage for oppo ads, it will be devestating). But I believe the choice of Wright and Trinity and black liberation theology framed as a political decision will cast a shadow over his campaign. I know everyone has their own read on this, but I think the media has generally favored Obama in the primary race. When he wins the nomination, that will change.
Obama may have painted himself into a corner with his speech (though he had no choice). He cannot make a speech like that and then just let it sit the rest of the race. He's made his campaign, at least to a great degree, about race and every time he raises it, the Wright problem will be resurrected. I could be totally wrong and it may be that the country doesn't even want to entertain this kind of divisive stuff this year. I don't know and don't know if anyone knows for sure. A bigger problem for Dems might be that 25% of each candidate's supporters won't vote for the other candidate. That's enough to sink the Dem nominee by itself.

Don Key: If Clinton wasn't under sniper fire in Bosnia, the sniping here more than makes up.
Great line! I'm for Obama and furious at Hillary, but a great line is a great line and we're going to really need to grow a sense of humor before this is over.

One of the problems of this lie is that it is a bad lie. You don't lie when someone can pull out a tape and say, no, that's not what happened.

I feel the same way. Don't insult my intelligence by telling me such an obvious lie...at least put in the extra effort to come up with a good one.

Very true - and yet another example of an unforced error by the Clinton campaign. This kind of thing is why I question her ability to a) beat McCain and b) get anything done if she does.
And that's assuming that her intentions are pure in the first place and that I'm a tin-foil hatter for suspecting that she's a corporate operative.

I think the Wright argument is starting to get stale:
Such prophetic preaching is especially valued in the tradition of the black church, which serves for many as the only safe place where African-Americans may speak honestly about the experience of racial injustice in this country. The righteous anger of a prophet, as shown in scripture, must not be confused with hate speech. - Link

This is from my 92 year old grandfather, who supports Obama.
"The Clintons lie."
My 92 year old grandfather, a lifetime Democrat. And a man, who on more than one occasion, has uttered racial slurs that have made me cringe. Why do you support Obama? I then asked.
"He is intelligent."
Both of the above happened more than a month ago, so my dear grandfather has been onto this for some time.

Is your user name really "100 Reasons Not to Vote for Hillary Clinton"?
Whatever happened to simple user names, like "cooldem" or "joe"?
Why, back in my day, we couldn't even use *vowels* to create our user names...

Clinton's tall tale was the centerpiece of her prepared remarks; it was not a misstatement off-the-cuff. If they haven't taken her 3/17/08 speech down, it's still there to read on Clinton's website:
http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/speech/view/?id=6553
Since Clinton does not single-handedly write, transcribe, and post her prepared remarks, the Tuzla story was the product of a deliberate collaborative damage-control effort. It just didn't work.

I posted this morning and couldn’t get back to it. I replied because I saw four or five blogs breathlessly pushing this story like it was the sale of the century. It’s apparent that HRC lied or misremembered or however they want to frame it. They were under a sniper warning as opposed to sniper fire and she embellished the story 9doesn’t matter if it was on purpose or in her own mind). She lied. Period. Is it an “issue”?
To zealous Obama supporters it’s huge because it confirms to them the worst that they want to believe about Clinton. To the country at large it is a minor one, if anything, and will dissipate quickly. Is it some Bush-esque or Cheney-esque deception? Please. Is it a surprise that a politician told a fib? In fact, all three candidates in this race have told lies about different things and this one is arguably the least egregious. Both sides are so invested and emotionally frayed about the perceived slights in the daily tit for tat that every gaffe is serious and every sound-bite that can be parsed and misinterpreted is grist for the mill. Finally, here is a story that PROVES Senator Clinton is a dirty low-down lying bitch. It validates all of the hate that’s been dished out.
I don’t think either side has been particularly high-minded in this game(I include myself). I have no doubt that just the discussion of Rev. Wright probably seems like an attack or smear on Obama to his supporters. Many of the issues that Clinton is tagged with like praising McCain, playing fear-security card, and fighting with all she's got are actually pluses in the general public's eyes. But I think the Wright issue is a serious political problem that will only build over time. I don’t think that because I want to see Obama trashed with it; I definitely do not. I’ll be happily proven wrong if Obama has put it to rest for good, but we’ll see.

I used the term Cheney-esque to describe the nature of the lie not the severity.
As we all know Dick Cheney has a penchant for sticking with a line long after it has been revealed to be a lie (eg- Al Quaeda and Sadam, WMD stockpiles).
I think the Clinton camp is doing the same thing here - and for the same reasons Cheney does it.
1) They know the media is pathetically lame and they'll get away with it (which they would have if the video hadn't turned up. Lets face it, even the detailed and devastating March 20th Washington Post article wouldn't have been enough without the CBS video clip. That the reality of the Wolf-Blitzer-era we now find ourselves in)
2) There is a level of "what you gona do about it" bravado to it. It's classic bully stuff. There is something starkly intimidating about a scruple-less opponent; it's a battle principle that both Karl Rove and the Clinton's understand perfectly well and have employed throughout their years in politics.

OK. I just watched her March 17th claim again.
Here it is.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOsGo_HWP-c
Check out the part where she is asked about what Sinbad said. She tried to convince the reporter that Sinbad was not to be believed because he is a comedian. She stressed in repeatably, in a effort to persuade the press that Sinbad was just joking when he said that he did not remember any sniper fire. She then went on to describe in detail her big lie about ducking and running.
Something that I have not heard anyone point out: There have been claims made that there was a fear of snipers in the surrounding area.
Take a look at how First Lady Hillary is dressed as she walks calmly off the plane and over to the little girl.
No Flak jacket, armor, or Helmet on, and also no security team surrounding her to shield her from any potential sniper fire. That means that there was no fear of any attack period. It is all a great big lie from start to finish, and it has all been rehearsed. This was a carefully concocted story to elevate Hillary into a fearless warrior status who would not flinch when an imaginary red phone rang in the middle of the imaginary night.
Pay special attention to who is walking behind Hillary as she walks away from the plane. You will see a press person walking behind Hillary with a long boom microphone which the person is struggling to move along.
Does anyone in their right mind actually believe that if there was any fear of any kind of hostile fire that the Hillary entourage would have been deplaned in that sitting duck manner, without a shred of protection around her. She is just telling a carefully crafted line of Bullshit.
