Open Plea to Josh Marshll...Please Weigh In!

...you need to weigh in now on the latest torpedo to hit the good ship Obama, namely, his "reverend problem."

It's been known for some time that Obama is connected (to the hip) with this reverend, and that this reverend has beliefs that a majority of admittedly ignorant and under educated Americans can't fathom (for example that the terrorism of 9/11/2002 against us was nothing new to much of the rest of the world).

I'm suprised that Barack hasn't dealt with his relationship with the reverend in some emphatic way until now. Couldn't he see this coming? Are you kidding me? I feel like Obama's campaign has now been "Spitzered." Another example of the Democrats making damn sure to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Josh, please, what do YOU think?

Most importantly, what should Barack supporters do to fend off this latest torpedo?

Can I just say that I like the fact that Josh *hasn't* weighed in, yet? That's the main reason why I don't go to TalkLeft anymore - their psycho moderators won't shut up, and don't allow anyone with a contrary opinion to say anything. They yank down any post they disagree with.

Josh, I think you're great and I totally respect your opinion and think you've done a fantastic job on the site - but please don't feel like you need to sound off on every topic down in the pit.

I dunno...I sort of like the mystery...

I agree with you and think Josh's silence on certain issues is what give TPM journalistic integrity and balance. There have been many times that things posted by Josh Marshall, David Kurtz or Spencer have driven me a bit crazy but it gives weight and power to issues when they actually do weigh in.

There's enough healthy (and unhealthy) debate going on in Reader Posts in TPM Café. I don't think Josh needs to be a cheerleader for either side. In the past he has stated his past affection for the Clintons and it takes a lot of journalistic will to keep silent, and raises questions if he did come out too hard for either side.

Still, aside from this campaign, let's not forget the tremendous work that TPM has done in exposing the Bush Administration's incompetence especially in the Justice Department. Obama and Clinton as well as the Democratic Party can take care of themselves, there is still another year of Bush/Cheney and obstructionist Republicans that Josh and TPM need their power to expose.

I think he did a good job of responding to it. His response was quick and unambiguous, and Wright resigned from the campaign committee he was on.

I think it helps Obama by demonstrating that he can respond quickly and forcefully to "swiftboating" attacks. He also responded openly and at length to questions about Rezko:

As many have pointed out, the details of his long-term involvement in a Christian church puts some holes in the "Obama is Muslim" stories. Not that there isn't room for some "as far as I know" equivocation for those inclined in that direction.

I'm sure your concerns are genuine, but it's too early to know how this will play out. My guess is that Obama's thorough response, it will play itself out fairly quickly. The wingnuts will still be frothing about it, but the wingnuts are always frothing about something.

It seems to me, no matter how "radical" the country thinks your church is, it's still better than being thought of as a muslim.
