Obama's spiritual leader: God damn America
Up until now, although I'd heard about Obama's church being quite radical, I hadn't read much more about it. Now, ABC has reported on sermons given by Obama's pastor, Rev. Wright, includng such gems as
"'God Bless America?' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible",
After 9/11 "America's chickens are coming home to roost"
and calling America "the US of KKK A", not to mention a bit of anti-semitism thrown into the mix.
Read the article (and see the news clip "is Obama's pastor a liability") here: http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/Story?id=4443788&page=1
Now, I've read on here people defending Obama by saying the Rev. Wright isn't part of Obama's campaign etc, so anything he says is irrelevent. I agree he isn't part of the campaign - he's a far more important person in Obama's life than any politician or work colleague.
This is the man who Obama has chosen to lead him spiritually, for the last *20 years*. Long before he ran for office in Illinois, this was the man who Obama turned to for guidance in prayer, and to align his 'moral compass'.
If this was just a member of Obama's campaign who happened to have a shady history, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But this man is much, much more important and influential in Obama's life - he married Obama and Michelle, baptised his children - and Obama *chose* to elevate him to the position of his pastor. I don't believe Obama when he says that he disavows his Pastor's comments; the rhetoric is truly outrageous, and no reasonable person would
listen to this stuff for 20 years, bring their kids to listen to it, and
then claim for political purposes he doesn't believe it. Please.
I'm interested in hearing your thoughts after reading the article and watching the ABC report "Is Obama's pastor a liability"

Obama just lost the GE. All they have to do is find a clip with him saying Wright is his mentor who he turned to for guidance and then play the part where wright repeatedly says God damn America. I imagine he can still win the democratic nomination. It might be too late for him to lose.
It doesn't matter what he does. He can reject and denounce or what ever. He can spend weeks on the campaign trail saying he rejects and denounces. But the republicans will keep playing the commercial and that'll be the end of it.

Well, certainly if Hillary supporters like the poster and commenter are willing to get behind a slanderous republican effort to tie Obama to Wright's views, then it might work. But really, did the person who married you or baptized your kids have any influence on you? Man, I didn't know the first thing about the views of the guy who married my wife and me, or baptized my kids. This strikes me as an unfair attempt to tie Obama to Wright's views, even though Obama's own statements over the years couldn't be more different than Wright's.

Thomas: "slanderous republican effort to tie Obama to Wright's views"
Obama himself has spoken at great length about his deep Christian faith, and how he's been going to the same church for the last 20 years. He's tied himself to Wright, and because he's done so over 20 years, there's no way he can extricate himself now with a few distancing words. I almost think he'd be better off saying that he actually was Muslim, and was just going to this church to keep up appearances! [note: that's a joke, I'm not suggesting he's actually muslim (not that there's anything wrong with that) so don't get angry!]

Perhaps you should state which religious views you expect everyone to hold, and which specific church you find acceptable that everyone should attend so you won't be offended.
Separation of church and state, people!

A person's religious views can give an important insight into their character - which is essentially what Obama is running on.
Are you suggesting that it wouldn't be a problem if McCain had been a member of a white supremacy church, for example?
Perhaps more importantly, however, if John Kerry was taken down by Swiftboating, what effect is this going to have on Obama in a GE? Much, much worse methinks.

Since MSNBC has adopted BHO as their official candidate and give him, his race baiting and innuendo throwing followers such as Susan Rice a daily platform to spout their "indignation" at references to Jesse Jackson it would be appropriate to have them on to explain away this racist, anti-American distributor of hate he calls spiritual mentor.
His disingenuous ploy of crying "racist, racist" at everyone is about to, as Rev Wright put 09/11/01 in context, come home to roost!! Get Ms Rice's ass on Matthews, Tucker, self-righteous Olbermann and Abrams TONIGHT and let us hear him defend his 20 year relationship with this hate-monger.
And please no "old Uncle" dodges!!
