Governor Guliani?
Just a thought.
If Spitzer resigns here in New York someone with free time, name recognition, statewide likability, and a treasure chest full of money from a failed Presidential campaign might be the front runner for the special election.
Is Spitzer's lapse the the resurrection of Rudy?

Uh... nobody here likes him.
Governor Bloomberg is a possibility.
But Spitzer really shouldn't give up. I mean, he slept with a prostitute, so what?

I didn't say I like him either! Just laying out a plausible scenario.

I'm actually not sure if there'll be a special election. The Lt. Gov might just take over and finish out the term.

Isn't that what Lt. Governors are there to do? Take over in such a situation?

It is not plausible. One does not elect thrice married, once to my cousin, once to my mistress who had an NYPD escort while we were cheating together, Rudy Giuliani to clean things up after a governor steps down from a sex scandal. Just doesn't happen.

Lt. Governor David Paterson is next in line to succeed Spitzer if he resigns. If that happens he will be the first African-American governor of New York. I kind of doubt he would be endorsing Hillary as Spitzer did.
