Get off Wright, Follow Hagee
I'm sure many of us have said "God damn you" to spouses, friends, jobs, whatever. And so it seems at least understandable to, in anger over some of the nastier parts of our history say "God damn America." But John Hagee doesn't say that in a fit of anger, rather he pretends to know God well enough to know that god WILL damn America, just as he knows God damned New Orleans with Katrina. Hagee preaches (I don't know what he believes) destruction of America if America doesn't do what Hagee believes it should, which is to follow policies which seem to be designed to lead us to Armaggeddon, something Hagee thinks is a good thing. This man is rich, powerful and nuts. And McCain went after his endorsement for a year. McCain made an active, persistent effort to ally himself with a pastor who is trying to influence foreign policy in the most destructive possible directions. Is McCain a secret convert? Why on earth would he want to be associated with such a fellow? This is a man who also has ties with and urged his flock in stark terms to vote for George Bush, an endorsement which Bush, apparently was pleased to have. Why wasn’t Hagee’s not for profit status taken away for this? This man may be nuty but he’s no joke. Why haven’t people pointed out the difference between someone saying God will damn America if we don’t bomb Iran or if we negotiate with Palestine, and someone who says God Damn America for treating blacks so badly? Meanwhile, as he herds his flocks to the brink of destruction, he rakes in piles of money for himself. You can see Hagee giving sermons, pushing books, and lecturing Christians in Israel among other things on YouTube to your heart's content. You can look up Sarah Posner's articles and book on Google, and you can look at Talk2Action among many, many other places to find documentation. Or just order his books from his own site!

Big difference. Hagee is not McCains's "spiritual advisor" of 20 years. Hagee and Wright are about the same level of fruitcake, but I don't see accepting a tertiary and momentary relationship as being the same as picking an "uncle", a literally avuncular figure, who happens to be comepletely fucking stupid, ignorant, and filled with bile and hate and who believes crazy paranoid conspiracy figures. And Obama's speech? Oh I know you all came in your pants, but I read it and it struck me sa full of dodges and half-truths.
Man, I laughed my ass off when you idiots elected W in 2000, an obvious moron, and then reelected him in 2004. Now you're going to elect another loser, because you think a black guy who doesn't talk and dress like a fucking thug is going to redeem your silly ignorant souls. Oh, I will get to keep laughing for another eight years, inshallah. He won't be as bad as W, but almost.

actually, I just read the Hagee wiki entry, and he's not half as fucking nutty as Wright. At least he ascribes a natural force i.e. Katrina to God (silly but I can see how something referred to as an "act of god" might be taken literally by a silly ignorant American Bible believer) whereas Wright thinks that it's a justifiable thing for a murderous fruitcake i.e. Osama to organzize the killing of 3000 people. Hagee seems to beleive some pretty ridiculous shit about the end-times and all, but that's more like science fiction, Wright really believes "CIA labs" created AIDS to kill him and people like him, a much more dangerous and ugly kind of suspension of common sense.

Wright is not attempting to influence foreign policy, nor has he ever overtly tried to influence voters. He has never talked about nor caused his followers to look forward to the Final Days, nor to vote for politicians who might hasten them. Wright does not make megabucks off sleazy merchandise nor does he make a grandiose living off hucksterism.
