Executive Branch Accountability
Since Elliot had his hand in the cookie jar (har har), I'm glad he got caught. And since we aren't Bushies, we aren't going to try to sweep our dirty laundry under the rug. I applaud the proper functioning of government, where open records and honest audits will find that a few thousand dollars have been transferred from government accounts to a shell company. . . . for PROSTITUTES. Now get over it! We have more important things to talk about than five thousand dollars spent on a high priced prostitute. We have an imminent threat in a messianic president who's every new move seems intent on destroying what shred of pride, dignity, or fiscal solvency we have left as a country So every time a Rovian asks, "What about your Democrat Governor getting caught paying for high priced prostitutes with your tax dollar???", I say: "Yes, that was bad, and that's why I think that politicians, even chief executives, should be held accountable for what they do on our dime. And where they lack enthusiasm to tell us, The American People have the right to an answer. This right can be enforced through the FBI. But when our Justice Department refuses to do it's job it is the duty of the legislature, as the most direct representative for the people, to ensure that we get answers. And if the legislature doesn't think the people have a right to know, I think it's time for a new legislature. Unfortunately, up until last November, the Republican led Congress was unwilling to even ask Dick Cheney who works in his office. Imagine that, the Vice President might have a bigger staff than The President. But the American People, who incidentally pay all of their salaries, are not even allowed to know how many people the Vice President has in his office, never mind who they are. What are they afraid we might learn if they told us what they're spending our money on??? Please.
