Chicago Tribune: No Obama/Rezko Wrongdoing
The Chicago Tribune has been selling papers for the last 16 months by repeatedly publishing different versions of the same Obama Rezko story, usually characterized by an inflammatory or inquisitve headline, something like "Obama and Rezko: Any Wrongdoing?" The story itself was always a tease, basically concluding nothing untoward known AS OF YET.
Obama sat down with 36 Tribune reporters for 90 minutes on Friday. As a result, the paper finally declares that there is NO WRONGDOING.

I think what the Tribune has done is essentially fair. As an ex-Chicagoan, I know that 9 times out of 10 in these cases, where there's smoke there's fire. However, I do think the Tribune has been a bit tabloid about the whole thing, and I think certainly that a cursory review of Obama's critics shows that there are alot of people out there pretending that there was a crime.
I was thinking this weekend that it's hugely important that Obama supporters counter this smear, and every other one already introduced or yet to come. This kind of thing is going to keep happening. If you truly believe that Obama represents real change, then you must intelligently conclude that there are elements of the established political and media structure that will fight him with everything they've got. Let's remember that this is about people-powered politics. There are plenty of people out there smearing and spreading misinformation and outright lies. Personally, I'd like to do whatever I can to fight against that sort of thing; however, I don't quite know what that means apart from posting on message boards. If you're like-minded and you've got ideas or advice, please post them here, and please get this story out.

"No wrong doing" doesn't mean "no stupidity." Obama seems to surround himself with questionable types. Rezko, Wright...20 years going to a church with this man as a leader, and now, suddenly, he is "distancing" himself from him? I don't buy it. Bad judgment all around, for a man who is running for President. Even pulling his name from the Florida and Michigan ballots. Bad judgment.
The war in Iraq? I could have read the same statement because I have always opposed the war. That doesn't make me Presidential material. There are other litmus tests, and he's failing lots of them.

Hillary seems to surround herself with questionable types: Peter Paul, Vinod Gupta, Hsu, David F. Rosen... the list of criminals, people on trial and unsavory people she surrounds herself with is extensive. Ironically many Clinton supporters either have not bother to be informed about there shady characters or maybe they simply do not hold her to the high standard that they hold Obama to. By the way, The Clintons have been hanging in Harlem with leaders in the Black Church,(before she made being Black unfashionable). I hear she has a Wright of her own. Don't worry, the biased media won't likely cover it.
In a May 2005 interview with the black weekly newspaper the New York Amsterdam News, the former President Clinton said that he supported the efforts of Louis Farrakhan.
Lets face it, the Clintons hold everyone accountable for their actions but themselves.

Bad judgment was Florida and Michigan not following the rules. If they had we wouldn't have the primary mess in those states which now exist.
Also Mr. Litmus Test Creator, will your next test hinge upon whether or not your candidate is leading in the delegate count or whether superdelegates are displaying the backbone to follow the wishes of the people.
Quite frankly, Obama doesn't have to distance himself from anyone because of political mischief. Obama's lead is growing so it appears that people are more discerning than mischief-makers give them credit.

That's awesome. I wish, during the 90s (or even now) that a paper would have the integrity to do the same for the Clintons, who are seemingly always accused of financial improprieties that never seem to really exist.
I don't support Obama but I have NEVER assumed him corrupt, nor have I accused him of it.
Fact is, neither of our candidates is corrupt.
And the Chicago Tribune did it's job well by investigating, interrogating and giving us all a reasonable conclusion.
So I'll gladly drop Resko. I don't prefer Obama as president, but he's not corrupt and even if we've known that around here, it's nice for a major paper to just say it when the research warrants it.
Stil... Clinton's better! An argument for another thread...

Will certain writers at Talking Points Memo who've pushed this non-story now come correct?
Nope. Too busy fanning up a firestorm over that scary black church.
