Bush and the "Romance" of War

avatar

Some days, so help me, I just don't have the strength to face the Bush Presidency. Today, speaking via teleconference to troops in Afghanistan, the President told them that if it wasn't for, you know, his darn job and his wonky knee, he would love to be on the front lines with them, enjoying the romance of war...
From Reuters:

"I must say, I'm a little envious," Bush said. "If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed."

"It must be exciting for you ... in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and thanks," Bush said.

I know. It would be funny, if you know, he wasn't really the President. Like if he was the President in a movie. Like a Mars Attacks-type movie. Then I could laugh about his dancing, his bushism's, and his total detachment from reality. Sometimes I still laugh...until I remember how really not funny at all it actually is.
