And then they came for Hillary

avatar

I have been monitoring the cable news shows, newspapers, blogs, etc. A narrative is being created. The MSM is lavishing Obama with praise for his astounding speech calling it historic--the best since MLK! Then with an almost wistful sigh they add the caveat: “even if he doesn’t win it was bold and brilliant.” This is how they will stop his nomination. He has defied them so far by the independence of his astounding grassroots fundraising and by the crowd-thrilling speeches that have lead to a string of unexpected wins. Dangerously he has taped into a yearning of Americans to be more than a myth of high ideas. His lead at the moment seems unassailable. What to do, Hillary? What to do powers that be? It is simple: lavish praise on his historic speech but continue to talk about his“pastor problem, ” the “pastor problem” the MSM originally magnified by running endless clips of Rev. Wright’s rants. Those videos have been available for ages. Their coming to the forefront coincided very neatly with Hillary’s “kitchen sink” assault. It was probably a random pile on but it will be the complicity of the so-called Liberal media that will complete the deed. Guilt by association is the name of the game and those who hold power are playing to win.

Vested interests, assuming Democrats were going to have a lock on the 2008 election, have funded Hillary’s campaign because they know she will be pliable enough in the long run. Allowing her some watered down version of healthcare will be a small enough price to pay when she tells Americans that the retired generals she is always conferring with have told her we must stay “a bit longer” in Iraq. War is the new growth industry in the US. Hillary will be an easy mark for them because she will constantly be trying to prove her toughness. And in truth corporations have decided they actually need some kind of national healthcare to allow them to eliminate the cost of company-sponsored health benefits from their bottom line. Naturally they will expect private interests to be firmly in control of the purse strings of any “national” healthcare plan.

An added benefit of Hillary’s recent scorched earth attacks on Obama is she has effectively wounded the Democratic party by bring both candidate down. Democrats should be running 20 points ahead of any Republican candidate as closely associated with the disastrous Bush years as McCain but some polls say he has even taken the lead. Hillary who entered this race having effectively lowered her negatives by being a good senator has now sent them soaring once again. Meanwhile John McCain continues to remain the “maverick” darling of the press who have shown no interest in shattering the false image they helped to create for him. But they will have a field day with Hillary. Even her use of the term “kitchen sink” will be mocked as a term only a woman would employ but certainly not a Commander in Chief.

Hillary supporters who are reading this might pause before they luxuriate in any smugness. You might be feeling delightfully vindicated because you feel you were indeed right about who was the best candidate. And too you are now free from any guilt you might have quietly acknowledged about her campaign’s subtle and not so subtle attacks on Obama’s race. After all everything may now have paid off big time. Hillary did a good thing--didn’t she?--by showing Obama’s race to be a weakness in the general election. But before you offer youself too much self-congratulations I would ask you to keep in mind this variation of the old adage: at first they came for Obama but I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t black.

If they do stop Obama the roundabout attacks on Hillary’s gender will commence. (Of course she is not [ ] . . . .as far as I know) No frontal assaults, of course, just some form of guilt by association. Instead of appealing to the latent racism in many Americans the Right wing press and demagogues aided by the MSM will start reaching out to white males many of whom harbor strong resentments towards bossy woman in general but especially those women who have been given special breaks while their jobs were shipped overseas. Unemployed men need someone to blame: blacks, Latinos, women. And so they will come for Hillary.

Obama gave a speech; an historic speech some said. But Democrats didn’t hear his words. They didn’t pull together and work in unison giving strength to each other.

This post's premise is ridiculous, sorry. John McCain has unbelievably low negative ratings for any US politician. Americans love this guy. Blaming Hillary Clinton because the "Democrats should be running 20 points ahead of any Republican candidate" is pure b.s.

You want an Obama victory? Stop dividing Democrats by ridiculously assaulting one of our great party leaders, Hillary Clinton, and start the project of ending America's love affair with the old warmongering guy from Arizona.

What I want to know is why the Clinton's are incapable of denouncing and rejecting the politics of personal destruction by means of guilt by association?

Do they actually believe that Obama holds as his own beliefs in any way the most inflammatory of Wrights comments? McCain was man enough to say that he knows Obama and the comments by Wright are not who barack is. Are the Clinton's incapable of this single act of decency?

If not, when they come for Hillary, do they really expect me to give a damn?

LOL! This post would be hilarious if only you'd written it as a joke. Alas, because you meant it, it's simply tragic.
As if the Obama camp hadn't been trying to make Hillary seem racist through guilt-by-association with Ferraro. Open your eyes, and think *critically*. I know you *want* to believe Obama's an all-pure being of light. But that doesn't make it so.

Money question...will you be supporting the Democratic candidate no matter who it turns out to be?

Patricia, thank you. I hope the American public will put as much thought into their votes as you put into this post.

Joe Perez:
What is the difference between "ridiculously assaulting" and standing by when someone does it to one of your own?

Or do you believe Obama deserves to be assaulted?

(I am assuming of course that the current assault is being fed by right wing jackals and not the Clintons).

Hi Patricia:

I read your post as a scream of a hurt supporter. I support Clinton but I agree the media was (as usual) savoring a scandal. If anyone, Clinton knows well what the media pouncing feels like.

I will ignore the dirt you spit on Clinton just because your candidate has had a problem, but I disagree with you.

He should pull himself together like a man, go out there and campaign for voters. He said he wanted to be a leader, this is a great opportunity to show leadership and not whine on CNN.

Patricia & Joe Perez...

Will each of you support the Democratic nominee in Nov regardless of who it is?

I'm just curious. I don't need any explanation either way. But, in my mind, anyone that wants to talk of 'party unity' needs to be able to answer 'yes' to the question. Thx in advance.
