And another John McCain error slips past...
In all the ruckus today over "The Speech", I almost missed this.
The Washington Post reported on this this morning. McCain announced that it's common knowledge that Iran is training al-Qaeda, which are of course, Sunni. Our old buddy Lieberman kindly whispered to him that he had it completely wrong, upon which McCain immediately corrected himself.
A mistake? Slip of the tongue? Perhaps. But considering our current President was not aware of the differences between the Sunnis and the Shiite before we invaded Iraq, you'll have to forgive me if I'm a little touchy on this subject.
Oh, and then there's this: In an interview with neocon radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt, yesterday, he said:" As you know, there are al Qaeda operatives that are taken back into Iran, given training as leaders, and they’re moving back into Iraq. I think Americans should be very angry when we know that Iran is exporting weapons into Iraq that kill Americans." Naturally, Hewitt didn't correct him, and his buddy Joe wasn't around to remind him.
I'm sorry, but if your whole thing is national security, if you've admitted to the world that the economy is "not your strong suit", then you better d@#$ well get it straight when you are talking about ANYTHING having to do with this mess in Iraq. I may have given him the one time, but two? I don't think so.
Let's not let this get lost in the midst of all the ongoings on the Democratic side...

You're absolutely right. This should be front page news across the country. McCain has just lost all credibility on national security. The thought that a second Republican administration might come in with such abysmal ignorance of Iraq, to pick up where Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld et al. leaves off, is too much to contemplate.
Any of the other potential Republican nominees would be well within their rights to step back into the ring to challenge McCain for the nomination.

Which would be worse, if McCain's mistake were confusion or ignorance? If McCain is this confused in the daytime, how would he pull his thoughts together if the phone rang at 3 AM? This is the man Hillary Clinton approved as qualified to be commander-in-chief!!

I think you're just being picky! I mean, the "War on Terror" means we have to bomb everyone we want to, and we just make up the excuses as we go along. It worked for the Bush regime; why are you getting all...you know...accurate about McCain?
Also, you have to remember: McCain is old, and was a POW, so it's okay that he doesn't make any sense most of the time, isn't it? Who can blame him for having a hair-trigger temper? Why SHOULDN'T he be the one with his finger on the red button?
At least he didn't go awol to get out of Vietnam (although Bush now says it would be "romantic" to fight at the front); at least he hasn't shot his friend in the face; at least he didn't say he wants to bomb Iran -- ooooops! Wow! What a presidential candidate!
