What do you least like about Hillary?
On one of Genghis’s more lively threads:
http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/02/debate-strategy-obama-channels.php
I mused about having a thread to have supporters of a candidate discuss their peeves about their candidate.
Well, pmj6 has picked up the ball (I’m not accusing anyone of plagiarizing! ;-)) and set up a thread about Obama.
Well, that’s only 1/2 the story -- or a 1/3 if you want to talk about McCain. So here is the other half (or another 1/3)… in the equivalent words of pmj6:
What do you like least about Hillary? This is a question to her supporters, not opponents. What are the things you dislike about your candidate? Or do you believe she is perfect, best candidate evah, etc?
I’m betting you will hear crickets on this thread. Prove me wrong!

I am watching this thread carefully and will continue to do so.

Yes, as a matter of fact I do believe she is perfect! Sorry, CT, I did not read your comment on that thread, else you'd have a proper citation, a bibliography entry, the works.
This might take a bit of time to unpack.
Her vote on AUMF was too calculated. I think she was afraid to go out on a limb, defy public opinion of the time (including much of the "liberal blogosphere"--just ask Josh Marshall or Matt Yglesias, who are now apparently atoning for their sins by supporting Obama, why they thought invasion of Iraq was a good idea at the time), and dash her presidential chances in case things went well. Somehow I think this was one of these things she did against her better judgment. I think she often doesn't trust her instincts, which gets her in trouble (either that or her instincts are not very good on many things).
She needs to make a better case for the Democratic Party and its ideals, what distinguishes it from the GOP.
I think she is too pro-Israel, more so than Bill was. I don't see her putting pressure on Israel to modify its ways. That vote on classifying the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (another mistake, IMO) was likely an attempt to curry AIPAC favor.
In general, she might be more of a foreign policy hawk than I'd like. Probably something to prove she's tough, the Yank equivalent of Maggie Thatcher. Which means her presidency would likely not include any far-reaching national security reforms, reducing defense spending, cutting down on our nuclear arsenal, things of that nature.
Her association with Madeleine Albright (of the "indispensable nation" fame) is also troublesome for me. Goes with the above point.
Really, many of the criticisms I level at Obama apply to HRC as well. Not enough of an effort to counter Bush policies (esp. on Iraq), not enough effort to bring attention to GOP obstructionism, not enough prodding of the ossified Senate Dem leadership. There are several far, far better senators out there than Clinton or Obama (Chris Dodd and Russ Feingold come to mind).
Her NAME. Since she didn't divorce Bill after the whole Monica thing, the least she could have done is revert to being Hillary Rodham.
More as things come to me.

ok, I'll bite, even though I like her for the most part:
---her flag-burning bill---
not sure whose support she was shooting for with that one. O'Reilly's? Limbaugh's?

Ah, not that is matters, pmj6 -- and I have no issue with attribution on this one as I mentioned -- I will point out that you posted on Genghis's thread at 8:10 pm on Feb 22 and you then posted your blog at 8:21 pm on Feb 22.
So, there does exist the possibility of a causal relationship here.
Just some circumstantial food for thought... ;-)
By the way, HRC's surname is her branding and one of the key reasons why she has been on the fast-track into national politics despite never having had an elected post before her Senate victory in 2000. Her name is the last thing she will give up!

If I had to pick just one, it would be her hawkishness. Maybe it's feigned because she's afraid of appearing weak or maybe it's genuine because she really does like neo-con foreign policy, but either way it's a frightening prospect.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the flag-burning bill. What the hell was that all about?

Honestly, it seems right in line with her legislative focus on naming stuff after people and various other non-issues. She's got some meat in her record when it comes to health and children's issues, but the rest of it is pretty light.

Yeah, the experience thing is another problem. Gore had plenty of it, Kerry same thing, HRC does not quite measure up to those lofty standards. She does not quite have the sort of edge over Obama she often claims.
Of all the folks who threw their hat in the ring, Chris Dodd was hands down my favorite. Too bad he was out of the race by the time my state's turn to vote came up.

I have a long list, but will stick with my top reason. (for now) I dislike the fact that a majority of the "earmarks" she "achieved" for our State directly benefited campaign contributors. Coupled with her husband's fundraising snafus, and that she takes more PAC and lobby money than any Presidential candidate in history, it makes it impossible for me to trust that she is working for anyone but donors. Perhaps her health care mandates cater to her insurance and drug company donors the way Michael Moore says they do.
