TPM Muckrakers win Polk Award!

avatar

I want to congratulate Josh Marshall on his receipt of the George Polk Award for Legal Reporting. The Polk Awards are among journalism's most prestigious prizes, and have a well-deserved reputation for honoring good reporting, wherever it may be found.

From the citation:
His site, www.talkingpointsmemo.com, led the news media coverage of the politically motivated dismissals of United States attorneys across the country. Noting a similarity between firings in Arkansas and California, Marshall (with staff reporter-bloggers Paul Kiel and Justin Rood) connected the dots and found a pattern of federal prosecutors being forced from office for failing to do the Bush Administration's bidding.

Congratulations to the entire TPM Muckraker crew.

Congratulations to Josh and tpm staff!

I well recall how a small tpm ripple turned into a growing wave and then a deluge as this DoJ scandal went from a blip on the radar to multiple congressional hearings, resignations, firings. Many readers also assisted in gathering information, sifting through doc dumps, exchanging information, and keeping this story alive. And I commend them too. It was a thrilling experience to see so many people working together over the web on behalf of our country and the Rule of Law.

Hats off to one and all!

And thanks to you, Fly, for this catch.

Nice scoop FOTW, I wonder why Josh and crew aren't bragging about this? Hey BTW you like parsing numbers, why don't you take a crack at Paul Lukasiak's exit poll flim flam over at Taylor Marsh's site.

She won't let you comment if you're not willing to give blood for Hillary but I'm sure your take on his BS would look good here.

Congrats!

Congrats, Josh, Paul, Justin and the TPM team! It's well deserved.

This is really a prestigious award. Here's the LIU webpage (http://www.brooklyn.liu.edu/polk/press/2007.html)on the awards:

The George Polk Awards have been administered by Long Island University since they were founded at the Brooklyn Campus in 1949 to memorialize the CBS investigative reporter slain while covering the Greek civil war. Past winners have included Christiane Amanpour, Walter Cronkite, Seymour M. Hersh, Chet Huntley, Peter Jennings, Edward R. Murrow, Diane Sawyer, Susan Sontag, Sidney Schanberg and Studs Turkel.[emphasis mine]

That certainly is illustrious journalistic company. I hope others will recommend this thread, so everyone has a chance to congratulate Josh and the TPM team on their award.

Congratulations Josh and company. Scott Horton at Harpers has a nice piece on your award. Keep up the good work.

Congrats, guys and gals of TPM-land!

This is a *seriously big deal* award (as a former Emmy winning newsman, I know!) - and you folks have earned it in spades.

Thanks for keeping us all informed on a daily basis, and for shining light in the many dark corners of our ever-challenged political system.

Keep up the good work!

Heh.

Knew you'd get it.
