The Texas Delegates Post DeLay and Rove
Has anyone looked at the post-2004 configuration of congressional districts in Texas. I know the delegates in Texas are skewed toward districts that voted heaviest for Kerry in 2004. But DeLay and Rove trashed some districts right after the 2004 election to increase the number of safe Republican districts in Texas. I was wondering if anyone knows how that redistricting might affect the distribution of Texas delegates. I've heard a theory that Obama might have an advantage because Black districts voted more heavily for Kerry than Hispanic districts in 2004. I wonder if those are the districts that got broken up. Those guys had their fingers into everything.

In Texas we don't apportion delegates based on Congressional districts. We use State Senate districts. Lots of factors favor Obama. This post:

is a good explanation.

Hi, Billy.
I live in Texas and yes, DeLay and Rove did trash our districts...but we have reason to be hopeful. We've seen increases in Democratic primary participation in traditionally "red" states, and Texas is no different. We have an energized Texas Democratic Party (thank you, GOP, for bringing Americans together at last!) and we think we will see a record Democratic turn out on March 4. Woo hoo!!! (Forgive me, but it's been a long time coming.)
This may be more info than you want, but the following two websites have excellent information about Texas voting districts, all things Tom DeLay, and details about how Texas allocates Democratic primary delegates:

Thank you both. Good luck. I've never lived in a Red state. When I was in Texas, Richards and Bullock were running the state. I did canvass for Kerry in Sheboygan, WI in 2004 -- home of the Kohler empire -- so I think I understand some of what you'll be up against in the Fall. I was a poll wathcher for MoveOn, and there was one of me and 10 Republicans watching the vote that day.

I go on absolutely nothing but buzz and memories of commentary over the last couple of weeks, but based on that and that alone, it appears that the Rove/DeLay gerrymandering favors Obama, I think because of dilution of the Latino vote. I'll follow the links in the comments to see what they say. Maddow did a short segment on this on her AAR show within the last week or two.
