NPR: Bill Cunningham Ditches McCain

avatar

National Public Radio's Robert Siegel interviewed Bill Cunningham following McCain's disavowal of Cunningham after he used Barack Obama's full name in a provovative introduction for McCain at a rally in Ohio. Cunningham denied he was attempting to smear Obama. It is his full legal name and that is what many president's have gone by was his argument. He implies that he was led to such talk by the McCain campaign staff, naming specifically former Senator Mike DeWine. Cunningham goes on to denounce McCain and say he felt thrown under the Straight Talk Express. He hinted that he would consider endorsing Hillary Clinton.

Cunningham's argument included an attack on the media's softness towards Obama that was reminiscent of the Clinton campaign's current strategy. Even though this is just another member of the pundits, it is one that has enough of a voice that McCain chose him to get Conservative's with questions on board. Job well done.

Bill Cunningham is the local Rush Limbaugh without the charm - and the brains. He's a wackjob, not a "pundit" which if you ever heard his show is akin to calling Ann Coulter, diplomatic. He's "hinting that he's considering endorsing Hillary Clinton" is so ridiculous and silly that words cannot express it. He was being sarcastic, his usual stock in trade.

He did exactly what he was asked to do, "throw red meat" at the voters. The crowd loved it. That McCain repudiated what he said AFTER the rally was astounding.

Sorry Christian, I didn't see you already posted this. It was fascinating to listen to Cunningham on NPR, I really hope NRP is able to score more of these interviews.

here is the link for those that missed it

Thanks for the link, Diet. I am new and this was my first blog. I screwed up adding the link and didn't have time to figure it out.

Yeah, it's amazing. When these guys leave their playground and visit some other forum--say, like NPR, where the grown-ups hang out--they stop sounding in any way threatening. They just sound clownish.

So that is the antidote to these gasbags. Put them in a room with a Robert Siegel or a Ray Suarez, let them spin their wheels for a couple minutes, calmly talk to them as you would talk to another adult, and watch them embarrass themselves and meltdown. These guys can't survive outside a sound-bite culture. NPR, then, is their kryptonite.

I love it.
