I was in the same room as a Blood.. why I can't run for office now.
That's it. Its over. My aspirations for office are now officially dead. Everyone's vetted me out now. In college I was in a room full of Bloods and I shook hands with some Crips at the local bowling alley. In fact, one of them hooked me up with some beer. And the other day, I actually saved the life of a Norteno gang member. Damn it feels good to be a gangsta.
I can see the headlines now, "Neoprufrok affiliated with gang members in his youth... the urban terrorists of America." Clearly, its affected my ability to lead and fight for the poor and underrepresented. Obviously, its an indication of how embarassing my judgement is. How could I have even thought of running for office? Doesn't matter that I'm a doctor at a county hospital that helps uninsured poor and immigrants. Doesn't matter that I've parlayed my ability into something that actually helps people. Doesn't matter.
I should have seen this coming - it happened to Obama too! He too was so clearly associated with terrorists who wanted 9/11 to happen! How do we know this? He was in the same room as them! And out of the thousands of thousands of people who contribute to him, one of them gave him 200 bucks!!!! Damning evidence if I've ever seen it.
So forgive me if I'm melancholy in a John Coltrane and Duke Ellington plays "In a sentimental mood" kind of way. It'll only be a matter of time... before Howard Wolfson puts my name at the end of the Hillary blog.

Let's just say that when the Republicans make an attack ad out of it (and you have to know they will), they are not going to ask you to write it. Compared to what they had to work with to smear Gore and Kerry with, this is pure gold.

If this pisses you off as much as it pisses me off, what can we online denizens do to push back against this brazen betrayal of Democratic principle?
My suggestion? Go through your progressive blogrolls and start commenting wherever there's a post remotely associated with this issue.
Me, I googled "Obama" and "Ayers" and went out to see what I could find from a blogsearch.google.com search. Guess what? Most of the "blogs" pushing the BS side of this story make it damn near impossible to even leave comments on their sites! Wanna give John Podhoretz a piece of your mind over at Commentary? Good luck! Wanna leave a note for Taylor Marsh? I've got $200 bucks says your comment won't get past moderation. Nonetheless, it's worth the effort. There'll be the random blog here and there (although certainly Larry Johnson is not allowing comments at this point) that'll accept a contrary view, you know, the wacky view that this is a smear job, a hit piece, a collective waste of time that is now, all of a sudden, not a waste of time, because it's all happening before we've even finished our nominating process. This is being pushed by one Dem campaign against the other ... stand up, Dems, and take the fight to these losers whose last gesture is meant to diminish all of us and make us cynical enough to believe that if they didn't do it, well, the GOP would be bringing the same garbage in the GE. BS. We are Democrats. When the GE arrives, bring it on. Until then, bring it on, too, but remember we're all Americans, we're all Democrats here. Don't put lies on your campaign website and expect me to avert my eyes, Hillary.

Yeah it does piss me off. But I've decided that where the most traction occurs, is where you and I aren't - MSM. Network news, local news, and local papers are read far more by the people who make more of a difference in the overall vote. That said, you and me and my cousin can still make a difference by influencing the online discussion and hoping it breaks through to the media.
That, or just we should start grassroots campaign against negativity - because I feel like we ain't seen nothin' yet... (uh.. I'm not sure who said this first, so I'm plagiarizing, sorry.)

Think strategically, act locally.
Sound off to your local paper.
