HRC 3M take
First time poster anywhere, please be kind
In re to Hillary Clinton 24 hours 3 Mill fund raising extravaganza, I have a few questions:
1) How much of that amount is online? you know people that actually pull out their debit/credit cards?
2) How much is "pledged"? that is people that promised to send money.
3)
How much of that money came from "bundlers"? that is people that
promised to get x amount of money from y amount of contributors (a
common lobbyist practice)
Anyone could follow Barak Obama money tally online, 100% online donations, His campaign will get the 8+ million dollars 48 hours take.
On Clinton's side only taylormarch.com acting as a press secretary is publishing some numbers with only campaing sources as supporting evidence.
What
I don't understand is, if her campaign is able to rack that kind of
money why they didn't do it after Iowa, or South Carolina? Obama's best
fund raising days were after he lost NH, why wait after the
announcement of Mrs.Clinton $5M loan to her campaign and that many
staffers are working without pay to do it, with all the negative
publicity connotations, this outcome let me to ponder, either:
1)
They could do the money bomb in January but refused to do so for some
germane reason, such as fail to match Obama's numbers or to avoid
looking desperate.
2) They couldn't do it, it is technically very difficult to process such outpour of money Obama's website was overwhelmed last night and a phone banking operation to process 1M/Hour is not easy or cheap to setup.
I
don't doubt HRC will be able raise that amount of money, in 2007 she
raised 15M+ more than BHO, albeit with a fewer contributors and more
maxed-out ones but she got 7.3M votes two days ago just like Obama.
My concern is that this 3M+ announcement might include a large amount
of "pledges" to make it look good on a press release to counter the 5M
loan flap.
Regardless of their intentions Obama supporters are determined to beat the 5M+3M the last figure 7.5M before 11am EST

Hola, Ernesto! Bien venido!
Good points you've made.
I myself think Barak's totals will get to $10 M today.
Many of Hillary's supporters are poor and seem to gravitate to her via name recognition. Many of these people don't have money to give ... or time. We need to find these people and somehow give them hope too.

Actually, according to Marc Ambinder of The Atlantic, the total haul for Clinton now stands at a startling $5 million.
I can think of five good reasons for the sudden surge:
1) It suddenly occurred to her backers that she might lose this race unless they acted.
2) For the first time, Hillary admitted she didn't have enough cash, and humbly asked for more. Ordinary folk are disinclined to open their wallets when they assume that major donors will provide more than enough funds.
3) Her senior staff, stunned by Obama's January haul, finally came to understand that this isn't Howard Dean's internet anymore. It's come of age, and is now the most effective means of raising funds that's out there. And they're finally using it effectively.
4) Plouffe's juvenile challenge incensed the women compose Hillary's base. Gender and financial (in)dependence are highly fraught issues, and attacks on Clinton here may backfire.
5) Obama has been milking the internet for months. Hillary just began. So it's not surprising that there's a long pent-up flow of support.

I find reason #1 there very convincing and the rest of those reasons rather less so (for what little my opinion is worth).

I got an email from Hillary's campaign a bit ago bragging about 35,000 online donors. Not very specific. But if she only has 35,000 online donors that's pathetic. If it's 35,000 NEW donors online since Tuesday that's better but still not as good Obama.

Frankly I want us to move back to public financing, this is the biggest bunch of corporate media welfare I have ever seen. I would love to see someone do an analysis on how much the media makes during these election cycles. What a disgusting windfall.

Thank you all for your comments,
1) TheraP: I don't know about the money issue or willingness to sent their credit card numbers through the intertubes , but HRC most loyal demo is the over 60, that is a demo that usually volunteers a lot, they probably did no make use of that human capital so far and along with online fund raising, they will have to make the point of invite them to contribute their time too
2) FlyOnTneWall: on 4) what else can he do? at this point in the campaign pretty much every substantive issue has been beaten to death, it is a matter winning the news cycle for each campaign particularly for HRC's.
3) Greg DeLassus, I believe it is a combination of the two with #1 having a higher weight.
4) markg8: I believe is 35000 on this drive alone, as I said before 7.4M voted for her last Tuesday, they are behind 100K+ of online contributors and 1M+ of $, their only way is up, just like BHO last friday time is the issue here.
5) geoff olywa: eventually like single payer health care is going to happen, most likely after a lot of establishment candidates get their behind kick out by the netroots as a way to remove the netroot's funding advantage, not because is right
Thanks again
