Calling Andrew-Can you remove a phony post from the Recommended List?

There is something about Why Won't the Media Establishment Share This Hillary News? that smells fishy with its 5 recommendations and one comment - mine. There was no attempt by the first time author to fix the mess he made of embedding a link and you would have to know how to copy and paste a part of the mess to get to the video.

As some of us have the ability to rate a post numerous times, it's hard to believe it received that many recs from people unable to follow the link.  Any chance of a removal from the Recommended list before the fish decomposes?

Really?

Yes, apparently some cannot recommend at all and others can recommend a post numerous times. As I've just discovered, though, the ability to recommend numerous times does not apply to our own.

I've been able to recommend my own post more than once, but I did it because I saw it lit up again and I wanted to see if it was possible.

I'm a big fan of TPM, but the blogging software is lacking a few key features. I can't seem to edit things that I've already posted. There doesn't seem to be a way to see when someone has responded to a post or comment without going back to that post or comment explicitly. A flagging system would be nice and an quite effective for the issue described in this post (potentially abusive content.) I also sometimes have to log in twice to comment. The first login gets rejected as an invalid username/password combination, but then I click again without changing the info and it works.

I just looked at the recommendation situation again and it doesn't look like it's actually increasing the count. It will allow me to click Recommend and it the number will go up, but when I refresh the page it has gone back down.

Well, thanks for trying to recommend anyway. Mostly I just want that other post gone. All the features you would like to see used to be here until the apocalypse hit the Cafe. No offense to Andrew if he reads this, but it would seem as though FEMA was in charge of this crisis, doesn't it?

In the comments in a couple of prior posts (which aren't easy to find, because the blogging software here is lacking a few key features...heh heh...), both Andrew and Josh have stated that some of the things you mentioned are being worked on.

No ETA though.

When you click "recommend" a second time, it does make it seem as if you have recommended the post again, but the recommendation is not necessarily counted, which you'll see if you refresh the page and the count goes back to what it was. There are ways, however, to make the recommendation count, though I'm not going to disclose them.

I agree that the post in question and its recommendations are phony, so thank you seashell for posting this. Hopefully, the loopholes will be fixed soon. The only way to ensure that is to require anyone who recommends to login and to track recommendations by user. (Of course, you could still subvert it with multiple accounts, but that's probably too much a pain for most people.)

Thanks, genghis for your validating take on the phony post. It actually does a disservice to fish by using them as a comparison. Best I could so early in the morning. :-)

It wasn't me.

I can't believe that putrid piece of misinformation made it up there either.

It's a regular kool-aid fountain of misinformation here these days.

Thank you, seashell, for having the courage to confront this.

Indeed some people seem to be taking advantage of the "privilege" of posting here. Putting up multiple posts in a short period of time. Advertising things. Posting a blog when a comment in another thread would do. Posting a blog when the topic has already been blogged by someone else or posted at The Muck or EC.

Kindness and respect and fairness should govern. And in most cases, that is happening. When it's not, we should be confronting the issue as seashell has done.

I personally find it irritating that the author's name is not listed once you click on the post. According to the title of this post it was written by "February 24, 2008, 3:36AM."

The entire post was irritating, a waste of space and totally insulting to all liberals regardless of whether you love her or hate her. Ugh!
