No.
If we get drawn into debates health care, ANWR, social security, albeit, very important issues, it will turn the NSA scandal into just another issue. This issue trumps all. The President is claiming the emergency powers of a dictator as long as terrorism exists in the world. This is a constitutional crisis. If allowed, it will end the American project of liberty.
Think about it. In twenty years, when environmental groups become more radicalized by impending crisis, our own children and grand-children are going to get swept up in the national security state we are creating now. Mark my words. Many of us face the prospect of one or more of our own family members being disappeared in our lifetime.
So much has been sacrificed in the past for liberty. All hope for a progressive future depends on its preservation.
The Democrats need to be focussed on one thing right now, which is preserving the constitution.Posted at December 21, 2005 7:26 AM in response to The Clock is Ticking

HSR wins the thread!
But given that the ethics committee is broken, the Democrats need to use every other tool they can to make this incredibly pervasive corruption in the modern GOP a partisan issue.
We need to help the American people understand that this level of corruption is the natural end-state of the GOP governing philosophy?
Why did the average GOP congressperson decide to get into politics? Because they are a seedy religious fraud on the make!
Why did the average Democrat? Because they care about their community!
That kind of thing. All the time. Just like Gingrich with his GOPAC wordlists back in the 90s. Send out a GOPACKING memo and get everyone using the same vocabulary. Tie their failed political philosophy to their absent ethics and impoverished morality.Posted at December 9, 2005 2:28 AM in response to The Ethics Truce Lives On

I work in a light industrial setting with a lot of conservatives. Many of them sense that their party has given itself over to magical thinking. I am getting traction with statements like, "Democrats are practical minded people. We want what works."
For the first time in decades a prevailing sense is coming down of the GOP as wooly headed and corrupt. People don't want to hear about the City on the Hill. They want the city they live in not to fall apart. In other words, for the first time in a generation, Democrats can be the Party of Common Sense.

These people are cowards and the way to stop them is to call them on it.
If you are a high military or civilian leader and you feel you can't defend America within the Constitution, you need to RESIGN TODAY. Let someone do the job who has the necessary courage.

I would imagine that there is a plan for repelling an attack by Lichtenstein and for launching a preemptive strike on Monaco somewhere in the defense department's computers.
But do they have a plan for the day after?
