I've seen the positive impact of survivor benefits and keep wondering why that isn't brought up.

Howard Dean scares the crap out of the neo/righty/evang crowd.
He's not the same Howard as he was while gov'r, but his blunt way of speaking is.
He's shaking things up in a positive way.
