  • THere is also another aspect that will play against Obama. Obama has alot of support from college students and they are out for the summer in a couple of weeks. Finals are the next couple of weeks. after that they go home or to summer jobs. No fun rallies with theier buddies. Having worked with many of these students, I know they have a tendency to get up and roaring with thier groups and then schools out and they rarley muster up the effort for thier causes while on break. THere will be several that are dedicated but they will not be there to generate the buzz and get those who are not as dedicated out to vote.

I am hoping that this combined with Hillary's strong support with blue collar workers will give her enough of an edge to take the popular vote. I will not support Obama in the general. THe supreme court be damned. I don't care anymore. I do think its funny though that you keep repeating that Hillary can not get enough delegates but you forget that the only way Obama can is if Hillary drops out. This isn't about saving the democratic party but its about not allowing Obama suppoters to force thier candidate on people just because he is in the lead. I have not voted yet and for the first time in my life I have the opportunity to vote for the candidate of my choosing not the one who was chosen by a few states that have been given that opportunity slimply because some stupid rules.
I don't think its fair that FL and MI do not count because they broke rules that were wrong to begin with. If someone thinks its right to discount these people then explain why the entire schedule is fair to begin with. Why should Iwoa get to vote before KY and every other state. What makes them so special. Maybe if we didn't have this system and have a real election we might get a candidate that more than a bare majority of dems can support. Regardless of how this primary turns out, we will have a candidate that only half the party supported.

  • As you guys keep teling us to quit being lazy because we are to lazy to go to his website and educate ourselves about his so called policies and position Then I will tell you the same. But I will give you a start. In every speech I have heard him give- he talks about the our time has come--MLK-- his change and hope come out of JFK and any one who ever watch the series West Wing should be getting a flashback. The hispanic character that won the election in the last season had the same mannerisms and speeches that Obama has. After that try reading through some speeches of Howard Dean. I have been involved in the political scene for a while and there is nothing refreshing about this guy if people would be honest. He was hyped up as a rock star and given the key note address at the convention for winning an election any democrat would have won. He had no real opposition after the scandle that caused the Rep to dropped out.

But your comment bears little thought considereing that every time someone points out that Obama's speeches are full of rhetoric and no substance Obama supporters are quick to tell us to do the research. I have been to his website-done the research and cannot find anything on there that is not standard on any campaign website. Nothing refreshing--nothing that makes him such different canidate. What I have seen out of himreminds me so much of Reagon-- the great communicator who gave us the trickle down economic policies that has this countries into not two but three parts. THe rich, the well off, or the poor with little chance for the poor to work out of poverty.

  • What I find is the race baiting be done here but because the person is black its not as bad. B Clinton was called on the carpet by many Obama supporters for saying things that COULD be considered racist- this stuff gets a pass or many just want it to go away.

In E KY there are many who are not racist but are offended by these comments and they are not satisfied by the "its a black thing: Most people here have nothing against blacks, They are not exposed to thier culture and in reality are struggling to survive themselves. They could care less about the color of someone skins. The only "racism" i see is that the people around here are just average people who get tick off when someone starts lecturing to them about how they are racist. They don't like being told that the AA community deserves this. I used to be big supporter of AA equality but this election season has made me realize that its not about equality. My husband made me see this. You see, for every complaint the black community gives about the circumstances they face, I can give you back with the people here in E Ky and they are mostly white yet we have no affirmative action for poor people. I graduated with several students who had 4.0 GPA's and scored in the top of the nation on the ACT and SAT but yet no ivory league colleges were handing out scholarships to them.

I was always for programs to help AA advance until I realized that is not about race but about poverty. I have been told by many people that racism will remain until people stop trying to lay blame. When everyone stops lecturing to others. My husband would be considered a racist by many of you dispite being friends with a couple of AAs but he is not, Just someone not school in the politics of race who just sees things differently. He, like many like him, can not understand why he is supposed to feel guilty when he did nothing to anyone. Once when he was driving over the road as a trucker he amde a wrong turn in chicago and went down the wrong street. The minute the people in the area seen he was white, they immediately starting yelling and flipping him off. Had he not been in an 80,000 lb rig they would have approach the truck. We were told by his company that a driver had gotten lost in the area and stopped to ask for directions. He was beaten to death. I know the same has happened to blacks but I am smart enough to realize that not everyone should be painted with the same brush. I will never judge someone by thier race but I also refuse be called a racist because I am not black.

  • I think it funny that just because we have GOP senators and in the last two elections have voted R that KY is a red state dispite the fact that a majority of voters here are in fact democrats.

Our state voted for B CLinton twice and in three decades elected only one Rep Gov which we tossed out after one term. The reason why KY is lost to the National Dem party is right here in the comments on this board. Insults just because we don't see Obama as the best candidate. I live in Eastern Ky in a town were one of local vets was honored at his death for being a wonderful human being. Yes, his family was the only black family in the county but he was honored for his committment to the health of pets and livestock in our community. not the color of his skin. I have lived in E Ky my whole life and have never expereinced anything like what I have seen people claimed to have seen in KY. What I have witnessed is however is that most Kentuckians have not been around the black culture and are somewhat put off by the whole "you enslaved us and now you owe us" that we hear from many black leaders. Kentucky is only considered a red state because of ignorance-- ironic considering that we are the ones labled as ignorant. I have worked with blacks and found that just like any other race there are individuals who I considered my friends and then there are those I can not stand. I am not voting for Obama, not because he is black but because I do not like him, his politics, or his phoney and ripped off speeches.

And if any one wants to defend his speeking abilities I would urge them to research some published speeches. Unsing common phrases is one thing, This guy rips off entire passages and themes. That famous speach on race you guys raved about was given many times by several people over the last two decades but somehow this one man gives it and it's all wonderful.

  • smitty,

Hillary changes this because she is not your traditional woman and shows that if a woman is qualified to be president then she can do it.

What worries me is that my daughter has commented already on how this country will cut down a woman like Hillary and push a man like Obama who if he were a woman even a black woman would have been laugh out of the race. And I am sick of people putting Hillary down-- Her expereince working on behalf of women and children for decades even before she became an elected official is expereince, Prior to Barack being elected to any offic he was a so called community organizer-- just what was he organizing i have not a clue. But this is suppose to trump Years of working TO advocate for women and children. And don't get on the Hillary walmart kick... Michille has her ties to Walmart and that is even after Sam Walton was no longer in the picture....

  • Barack Obama is not the supervisor who denied you a raise because you didn't respond to his harassment. He is not the customer who called you "hon," the professor who denigrated your contribution to the class, the guy who cheated on you, or the punk right out of college who was promoted over you after you trained him.

This is the most stupid comment I have ever seen. I did not support E Dole and she was a woman becuase I did not think she was the woman who should be president. I do not like Obama as a candidate because I see him as a fake. He has shown no originality. It was top of by his arrogance. This is not imagined as some here would like to argue. It has nothing to do with him being black either. I would love to support a black president just give me one I know who can be a good president. At a speech Obama stood beside a supporter who was introducing him with this stance facing upward, eyes closed like he was some GOD and all this was his due. I have yet to see him act in a humble way. He is so full of himself. Unfortuately there will always be some women who see the glammer and hype and fall for the star quarterback. Then there are the rest of us who realize that our identies are not tied up with what the men in our lives can grants us but rather in what we can gain for ourselves. And I know that there will be women who will stand up and stay I am a woman and I support Obama---My question to them is why. What is there about Obama is there for women to support. He offers nothing that every other pol has not said before. His message of change is nothing more than Dean's with a sexier, more Hollywood appeal to it.

Hillary will do alot for women. I dont know what the guy before thought but I find it ironic that Rev Wright could go through a spout about how Hillary will never know what its like to be black and that is alright but we are not allowed to question how it is that a man cannot know what its like to be a woman. As a woman Hillary understands that our problems are not just about how men treat us as second class but how we treat ourselves as second class. We raise our daughters to believe the same thing. A good example was with my own daughter. She was in a basketball game and as the center she is supposed to be aggresive yet the ref told her she needed to play more "lady like" She's althletic and perfers not to wear dresses and makeup but I am constantly told by other women how much prettier she would be if she would. at fourteen she is really not into the fashion trends and the boys she knows accept her just the way she is. It is the girls and other women who try and make her feel different because she is not 'girlly" She is strong and independent even at this early age and has already been labled the B because she doesn't allow other to control her opinions. She is outspoken when she disagrees with something including me. She is maturing into her own person and women in my family think it is time for her to start learning how to become a woman. They can not believe I let her take Agriculture and welding and not Home ec. One woman I know even said that learning how to weld would not due her any good but every girl needed to learn how to cook

  • What welfare cuts--- The single mothers I know are doing better on the system. Over half my family is dependant on welfare of some sort. Many are single mothers who are able to work above board and not loose thier benifets. My mother happens to see this as an improvement. My family has a long history with the welfare system. News FLash there were no slashes but only opportunity and incentative to get off it. Sorry but I live in an area were having a child just to get a welfare check was common. Having come provery, I fully support helping people rise out of it but there comes a time when you have to help yourself. Mnay single mothers made no effort to get off welfare and even worse had more childern they could not afford to support on thier own. I work with those that have made an effort to improve thier lives and I see a marked difference from the days were welfare was a career chioce for some and a damned if you do damn if you dont case. My mother would loved to have had the chances that the new welfare system offers singles mothers who are willing to imporve thier lives

  • Oh I also would like to ask about the "treated like a child comment" As a person who has studied rhetoric I see this for what it is--empty. I have seen no evidence where Hillary treats us like childern. I don't know why you are an Obama supporter but I know that this type of pitiful attempts to demean Hillary seems off hand to me. My reason for supporting Hillary is because I believe the we elect to much flash and not enough policy wonks. Why would you elect the person who takes others plans and just wraps them in more attractive packages--why not elect the person with the plans to begin with. I am a hillary supportor because in debate after debate Obama could only elaborate on what Hillary had already stated-- in effect admitting that she had it right. So I have to ask what is about Obama that is not there with Hillary. And don't give me the IRAK garbage. I would like for those who believe this line of crap to take a look at our history in dealing with rogue leaders. Failing that resolution would have undermined the effect that this president and future ones would have had. How much leverage would they have after such a vote. NONE. Bush abused the power.

  • I don't teach at a college level-- I am an advocate and peer advisor for adult college students. And yes I was in a hurry but proper grammer and worthy post can often be a bunch of sh*t My typing sucks-- pardon me so sorry. You know if all you so called smart asses would spend more time listening to what some people say instead of pointing out insignificant garbage like my typing and spelling then we might move forward. I am sick of seeing people work thier a$$es of only to have statements like this render them unimportant because they don't measure up to standards. There are peopel in this country that came from circumsatances that you cannot understand and you sit there and respond to thier lack of typing skills your own ignorant opinion on my so called "students" deserving better. The students I work with deserve to be listened to not belittled for grammer mistakes.
