  • What's the difference if you do? This is exactly the strategy your side has been using for years now. Remember all those earnest Fox reporters and their "do you denounce Harry Belafonte's remarks" nonsense from a couple years back? Same fucking thing.

  • Actually, when you factor in Nader, Barr and McKinney, Obama actually leads in Florida (O48% - M46%). I think that's a promising sign.

  • That's why the word "seemed" is in there. It's an opinion. If he said they actually were caught off-guard, he'd need a quote to back it up.

    Not too challenging.

  • Good point about Reagan - however, he really didn't need to spend a lot of time convincing Americans that Carter was incompetent. They already believed that, more or less. Obama still has to make sure the "incompetent" tag sticks to McCain, because it's not at all clear that voters regard him that way yet.

However, I think this is a good ad that offers a positive, thoughtful vision of the future. Hopefully it will be heard above the noise of lipsticks and BlackBerries.

  • It will go like this: "He has a PhD in economics and was a professor at Texas A&M University. If you can't trust a smart guy like an economics professor at a good, old-fashioned American school like TAMU, who can you trust?"

Of course, it's all bullshit, as some of my old economics professors never knew Thing One about how the world *really* works, but a lot of people will buy it.

  • Not even close to the same thing. 9/11 was an external disruption that was relatively easy to recover from; this exposes the entire financial system for the scam that it has become over the last several years, and threatens to bring it all crumbling down.

  • Her absolutely boilerplate non-answer in response to the other big FP gaffe - "Bush doctrine? You mean his world view, right?" - shows that she hasn't really thought much about foreign policy at all. It was clear from this interview that she'd been given a few position points to memorize and rehearse, and that's exactly what she did. She's a foreign policy lightweight.

  • I wonder if publicly saying Bitney was fired for poor job performance qualifies as slander (or libel, if it was a written statement). I guess if they can produce evaluations that back them up, they'd be on safer ground, but . . .

  • How do you guys manage with partisan electoral commissions?

What's the alternative? How would you rid our electoral commissions of partisanship?

And not just overt partisanship - I mean all partisanship.
