The real point is that when she gave the speech, she was just presenting someonne else's words - her speechwriters. Full marks for the presentation, but like Thatcher she need's a voice coach as the voice grates a little. But actually, any good actress could have done as well!

One on one interviews are the only way to evaluate the real competence and understanding of the candidate, and to find out what the person really thinks, and is capable of.

Yet another post from a small town in Germany, where I live part of the year - the other in Kuwait.

Its all about economics - as the gas price increases, people's behaviour will change - they will a) switch to more energy efficient vehicles, and trade space in the burbs for a home closer to work and amenities. The increase in gas prices will come through either supply and demand - which is happening right now, or the process can be accelerated by a planned stepped increase in gas taxes - as has happened in Europe.

The impact in the US is already noticeable with the decline n the market share of large SUV's.

As apersonal anecdote - I have two vehicles. In Europe where gas is $9 a gal I drive a small peugeot diesel, which returns over 40 mpg, in Kuwait where gas is $1 per gal, I drive a Toyota land cruiser which returns less than 20 mpg.

Similarly, I am building a house in Germany, whose location is close to my partners work, and to the places we visit most frequently. We are installing an energy efficent wood burning stove, and a geothermal heat pump. Not because we are tree huggers, but over the next twenty years I believe fossil fuel prices are going in one direction only.

This is economics at work.

Madame,

Mr Spitzer is not accused of committing a crime he previously prosecuted - prostitution, but of availing himself of the services of someone who committed that crime. It may seem pedantic, but if you look at it from a European viewpoint, in most countries selling sex for money is not illegal, but living off the earnings of someone who sells sex for money is.

The objective of these European laws, and aslo the Mann act is to protect vulnerable women ( not very PC I am afraid) from exploitation by pimps. Indeed, in this case the only indictment so far is for the pimps in the case.

In the specifics of this issue, at $3500 bucks a pop, I am uncertain as to who exactly is the exploiter and the exploitee.

As for trafficking across State lines - there are several issues:

1) Who transported the person across State lines - Spitzer, her agency or Amtrak?

2) The original act was to protect people from benefiting from different laws in different states. Is there any substantial difference in the laws of NY or Washington? And I presume that the lady in question was definitely over the age of consent in both states.

In conclusion, this whole affair is a bunch of political bull shit, pushed by a DOJ that has been politicised, and the objective is to take down a dem. Who are johns 1 thru 8 and 10 to ????

Surely the RNC is complicit in conspiring to circumvent the PRA, and under those circumstances someone - Congress - Crew can obtain a court order to preserve all documnents that might be relevant.
