  • American hegemony. That train has left the station and the Neocons are the drivers. It is funny, in order to cemment American dominance, the cons feel we always need to be on a war footing, always have an enemy to fight. They love this and they don't want peace. The "shock doctrine" in action. The difference between now and the cold war is that the Russians have become more media savy and learned how to play the game of public perception. This military action was clearly not off the cuff, and even as they say they have ceased hostilities, bombs are still dropping. The Russian spin doctors are now using all of the same rhetoric that the US uses, briliantly deflating any critisism that the US has. Our only option I think is to shore up our alliances in Latin America, meaning to completly revise and overhaul our policies in that region. I say this because we are the only superpower who could have real influence in that region by way of our proximity. Also, it is a gaurantee that the "leftist" leaders rising in latin america are watching what is happening now and are wondering if they can do the same.

  • no, lie is accurate. It is also a powerfull and succinct word that DIRECTLY cuts to the core of republican politics. Two things are for sure
    1) The media soon will have no choice but to run with the headline "Obama attacks McCain as a liar". This is good an puts McCain on the defensive in a way we have not seen.
    2) The repubs will not know how to respond. I would put money on it.

  • I am seeing the word "Lie" alot from Obama lately. I Honestly cannot guess what might happen if the Obama camp runs with the message that "McCain is a liar". Will it work or not? If it does, politics will be irrevocably changed.

  • Ever heard of the rope-a-dope?
Obama and company are not trying to win on points, the want a knockout.
It's clear that he can beat McCain to a pulp now, but McCain will still survive to be an "alternative" on election day. The last 4 weeks of the campaign is when to really open up on Gollum.

  • Same with the very German sounding "homeland". In all seriousness, that term is a hitjob on the American psyche. I am pretty sure they got the idea to user that term from the Nazi political machine in the 1930's.

  • I disagree on 1), but we will have to wait to see until election night. Is it possible that after 8 years of some rich dumb asshole throwing on a folksy accent and the media saying that he would be great to have a beer with, people will stop and say to themselves, "maybe we shouldn't care about that..."? I know it seems counter intuitive, but if Obama tries to get to folksy, he could end up "looking" more like bush, thereby shooting himself in the foot and making McCain look less like bush. He should continue to market himself as an intelligent and capable leader. He is running for the leader of the free world, not sheriff of Maybury.

  • I think we have yet to see a "pivotal" moment in the campaign, but I feel like it is coming. In the debates, It is going to be very hard for McCain to keep balance on this weird line he has been walking. Also, all these dumb ads and lack of substance I think are leaving McCain open for a major smackdown/meltdown. I'm talking a juror #3 moment where the metaphorical curtain is completely pulled back from in front of this real life interpretation of Gollum. It's going to be a sad moment for the country, because there was a time when McCain was an inspiration to many people, and to see him having fallen so far will be one of the last nails in the coffin of the vietnam war. It is neccessary, however, for the country, and for the republican party to clean itself up. A hitting bottom moment for a party that is important in providing balance to the democratic party. I think it's all going to be very poetic and an important event in the history of our politics.

Also, angry confused old people say the darndest things.
