This
old flannel banners line the walls
is a bit silly. It is obvious that the "old flannel banners" function as noise dampeners, and the older and more tattered that they are, the better that they work.

I hate to say it, but Ahmanson is a good excuse for a hefty estate tax. His wealth is inherited, and it is fairly clear from his history that he's a flake.

It is rather ironic that a Jew, even a conservative one, would adopt the German Dolchstosslegende--the stab-in-the-back legend. Of course, that was the excuse that German conservative military types used to excuse their loss in WWI, blaming liberals in Germany for their loss.
But the Dolchstosslegende predated WWI by several centuries, and has been used by conservatives in the US--Jewish or not to blame liberals for their (the conservatives') inability to win in numerous actions ever since, and now the idiot NPodhoretz is citing it yet again.

Did O'Connor really say something to the effect that
“Bush would have won anyway.” O’Connor’s point is based on the so-called media recount, “Bush would have won anyway.” based on the so-called media recount?
That's idiotic. The FL state statutes do not delegate the counting of ballots to the media. They delegated the counting of ballots to the county elections commissions.

Let's understand something. Dershowitz is nothing more than a media whore. I'm actually amazed that anyone pays any attention to him.

We stopped watching Washington Week in Review years ago, after it became obvious to us that they had pretty much the same stable of jackasses (from which they pulled their weekly panelists) year after year.

Sounds like the "fine print" that credit card companies send along with regular bills, knowing that the "fine print" will be discarded. Quite frankly, they should be forbidden to do this via "fine print"--they should be required to send it separately via regular mail. And they should be required to post it in 20 point time on any of their mailings.
On the other hand, quite frankly, they should be required to obtain agreement from their customers via the usual means. Like returning a form suitably filled out. This "next time you use your card you are agreeing to our terms" bit has got to stop.
And, just to let you know. The Democrats in Congress aren't going to do anything about this. Democrats are about as worthless as Republicans.

This is a joke, right?
When a plaintiff sues in court for a defendant's allegedly tortious act, it is a governmental matter. The state (i.e., the government, via the legislature) can choose to expand or contract the rights to recover for allegedly tortious behavior, and, as the original post indicates, in many cases it has chosen to do so.

The Foley scandal was rather minor in the scheme of things as far as substance is concerned, but since it came as it did about a month before the election, it thrust the Republicans completely off message during a crucial time in the campaign. That is why is was important.

To no one’s surprise, Tony Blair announced yesterday that Britain will maintain its nuclear deterrent for the indefinite future.
Irrespective of the other matters raised in the post, why did Blair feel it necessary to make a public pronouncement? Was there some time limit involved?
Israel is presumed to have a nuclear deterrent, but they have never said whether or not they actually have one. It seems to me that it would be better to keep potential enemies guessing.
