  • Absolutely! Thank you for capturing this key point so clearly, and making all the right distinctions as to why Alexander might be "the worst of the bad guys in this particular instance".

    Hear hear!

  • Alexander did not act in good faith, and gets no pass because he treated this issue as one that involved only one page and one Congressman.

He did not show the emails to Hastert, and purposely "notified" Hastert's of an "issue" that was narrow in scope. The emails show that MULTIPLE kids might be at risk, not just this one page Alexander was concerned about.

Posted at October 13, 2006 3:35 PM in response to "Didn't Alexander's office have an obligation to make sure that Foley was not hitting on other kids?"

  • This is the central issue, then: multiple reports of inappropriate conduct were contained in the original emails; what exactly did Alexander and Hastert and Reynolds (etc.) do with these reports (plural).

By supposedly "shielding" one family they were exposing many others.

  • I don't know. The Senate bill stinks for many reasons, but it is "something" for Louisiana-- billions-- though we don't see any real money for a decade.

As memories of Katrina fade, won't that hinder our negotiating power if we don't pass any revenue-sharing this year?

If there's a compromise that looks mostly like the Senate bill, at this point I'd say take it. LA can always address its desire for current (not new) oil revenue-sharing in future bills.

  • I just happened to be watching CNBC at the time, and have nothing against Ms. Bartiromo. Perhaps I shouldn't have included those distracting details. I simply wanted to emphasize how the media focus was on the Storm. "The Storm cost this much, the Storm killed this many..."

For a network that did a special on the Netherlands flood protection, it's amazing that they focused on the "Storm" when doing a report on N.O. one year later.

Thanks to cscs for checking the CNN transcripts for any mention of the word "levees".
