McCarthy is a pretty scary guy. I used to think he would agree with anything W said or did. Any torture, wiretapping, surveillance, disregard for the judiciary or legislature – anything at all W wants to do – is fine.
I was wrong. In reaction to an innocuous comment by W about democracy and terror, McCarthy pounds the table and froths at the mouth in apoplexy.

It’s not as though he’s quoted as saying anyone who disagrees with him is stupid or crazy. He merely stated his belief. It’s not insulting to state your belief. In fact, it’s good to state your belief, and if people take offense at that then they’re way too easily offended.

1. A party of one or a few in the House wouldn't be able to accomplish squat.
2. Creating a party large enough to have an influence would be a massive undertaking. It would be easier to achieve the Presidency via one charismatic candidate.

If you were to pour lots more money into the DC government's hands, a large percentage of it would be wasted. Your sidewalks would still be messed up.

I really don't care if a business wants to hire someone for free and the employee wants to work for free. I’m a free marketeer. What gets me is the utter hypocrisy of Rolling Stone (what do you want to bet that Jann Wenner lives a really nice life style?) and Chuck Schumer hiring MY and a bunch of other rich kids for free, and MY and all the other rich interns and Jann and Chuck whining about how immorally low the minimum wage is. If Wal-Mart can’t pay less than minimum wage, then Jann and Chuck should play by the same rules – no labor less than minimum wage, not to mention for free.

Ditto Brett. All Matt has done in this post is multiply 5/100 times 200 million to come up with his 10 million false positives. That's downright silly.

"with the exception of James Carville, we on the left have no attack dogs"
What about Begala? He's an attack something. If he's not an attack dog, then what is he? An attack donkey? An attack weasel? Skunk? Jackal?

I suspect Matt was thinking of the guy with the highest payroll and the 3rd worst record in the league, who's never seen a lemon he didn't want to pay top dollar for. Marbury (6th highest paid player in the league) and James ($5 m. for that?) and Hardaway (13th) and Davis (20th) -- Lord, Lord, Lord.

"we can't trust the major media"
Do you believe that the Republicans can trust the major media? That position is not really implied by your post, but I'm curious whether you believe that.
Also, re the "message machine," are you referring to right wing talk radio? If so, why don't you believe the listeners to that nonsense are people who wouldn't vote Democratic even in the absence of Rush, et al.? I, for example, am a right leaning swing voter who never listens to talk radio except for 15 minutes or so every now and again to see what bugaboo is gripping the nuts today. I can't imagine anyone with my views feeling otherwise.

Agreed, it’s not just earmarks, which are just one small blemish on a hideously disfigured body. But it’s also not just contracting. It’s also tax breaks, subsidies, tariff barriers, trademark rules, and so on – i.e., anything the government does.
