Hatchets and Hillary
I just emailed Josh Marshall over his insightful article "Redundant," arguing that I'm beginning to suspect the petition to ABC may be short of the mark, that Hillary is not following the lead of the media, or climbing on the...more »

We may know Palin's policy positions, and why she's drawing the radical evangelicals, but the Average Joe Cable Watcher does not. I mention (as a woman) to people I talk to why I don't want to see Palin in a position where she can legislate on anything, including making abortion no longer an option even in cases of rape, and they look at me blankly. They don't know anything about what she believes, they just know that she seems like a good woman who is being bashed on the head. Have to get the REAL reason we're afraid of Palin out there, because she's in no way qualified for the position of VP, because she's regressive on women's issues and looney tunes reactive Repub right wing on national security, and she's done nothing but utter lies about her record from the minute she hit the public stage. Not because she's a woman and she's pretty, and she's a "celebrity," (the Repubs criticism of Obama, when they were jealous of him). What about (bumper sticker) "Republican Mac and His Moose Whopper - Want Lies with That?"

Great post. Let's PRACTICE hope (now a verb, requiring effort and persistence and tenacity).

I do wish people wouldn't say, "It's Over" when there's a little challenge. Obama's a sly political animal, and he's got plenty of game. Let the Repubs have their 5 minutes of fun with their new, shiny toy. And then watch the shit hit the fan when Palin is fully revealed as a power-crazy nutjob with repressive agendas. The one thing that Rove is (and he's now in charge) is childish. "Liar, Liar, Pants of Fire," bumper stickers would be about the appropriate level of countering we need to do right now. Along with "The Surge to Nowhere," since we have gained absolutely nothing from invading Iraq, or sticking around to win an unwinnable war. I would like to see Bush/Cheney impeached, Rove made to pay for his disastrous political gaming, and Palin sent back to Alaska. I do dislike people who shoot innocent animals with automatic weapons. It's so, let me see, cruel and heartless.

Everyone's calling for blood on this one. But let's not forget (and we can study up by re-viewing the video of the RNC) that in The Sarah Palin School for Beauty Queens, you smile your lipsticky smile while you're lying out the side of your mouth. Notice McCain (so telegenic against that green screen) with his new, learned smile and his new set of lies. That's how you win a beauty pageant, folks. That's how the Repubs sell their snake-oil. Seem ever so pleasant, and entirely abandon any scruples you ever had, while repeating the vacuous phrases, "honor, country, patriotism, flag, POW, military, our brave men and women," etc. Smile, smile, smile!!

Nemesis says, "There's a desire on the part of the party to come together under any circumstances," - my ass! They should kick her ass out of the Democratic party, and I'm a middle-aged white woman saying this. Stop the Clinton arm-twisting, bullying and coercion. Take away ALL their influence as punishment for trying to wreck the Dem's chances in November, unless they are the ones running (Billary, I mean).

There is no way that Obama, at this point, can win against HRC in Appalachia. I think those voters who want to vote Dem in the fall will go with Obama, when the option of HRC is taken off the table. In one sense, HRC has done her own supporters a diservice in continuing since March to convince those supporters that she can still win. It has given them a desperate edge, now has them swearing they will go for McCain in the fall, if their only other choice is Obama. This is so ridiculous. They haven't even bothered to learn about Obama. They quote (as HRC does) the right-wing talking points against Obama. The Wright issue is a non-issue, blown up by HRC in cahoots with the Repubs. It was her H-Bomb she hoped would blow Obama up, that's all. Obama himself, as he has shown consistently, is about reconciliation and unity. He himself has never promoted himself as the "black" nominee. He's not about race. But HRC and Bill have brought this topic up as a way to destroy him. All it's done is destroy good will between Democrats. Appalachia (well documented) will chose a white candidate of either party over a candidate of any other color, but the rest of us should attempt to focus on the issues and who represents us on issues and values. Clearly, a Democratic platform will do more for ending the illicit war, waging a more focused and intelligent attack against Al Qaida, promoting universal healthcare, improving the education system, getting us away from partisan politics, and controlling the damaging effects of political lobbying. We need our infrastructure and economy back, we need forward thinking job training in our new global economy. Any person aligned with those issues would be committing political suicide to vote for the Repubs. Our enemy is the established right-wing agenda, not each other.

No, not Puerto Rico. I bet they just don't want to step on Clinton toes, given their history. Pathetic, somewhat. Can't risk backing either horse. Originally, I felt Edwards was just holding out to make himself matter again. But then his wife endorses HRC's health care initiative over Obama's, although I don't know why. Internal family feud ensues.
