Wright is promoting his own public image at the expense of his supposed friend. This is a guy who once predicted that a black man can never become president, and whose continued relevance within the black community depends on his being right about that.

Somehow I doubt the black community as a whole is going to do anything like that, and thus won't deserve the well-justified anger that Obama is expressing towards Wright.

One more argument is that the FEC still has four vacancies on its six-member board, and thus can't supervise the public financing system. With the FEC effectively paralyzed, it doesn't seem wise to opt into the public financing system.
