  • Wisconsin is a really mixed bag. There are areas that are Dem and areas that are Repug. There are also many many counties that are pretty much split down the middle. The North woods are a totally different place than the industrial South East and the agricultural South West.

  • And these are the folks who will be advising McCain if he is elected? If McCain is incompetent enough to so completely mis-handle the VP selection process, how can anyone believe he can get things right while sitting in the Oval office? Geez! These guys are amateurs!

  • Safe choice, not exciting. Then again Barack didn't need to convince ME to vote for him; I've been on board since the very beginning. Hopefully, this will appeal to the undecided.

  • Excellent post. Thank you. "Elite" should not be a dirty word. Obama is clearly brighter, smarter and more accomplished than most of the rest of us. Thank God for that. I refuse to cede words like "elite" and "liberal" to the neo-cons to turn into virtual four letter words. I am proudly liberal and, were I smarter, would be proud to be considered part of the intellectual elite as well!

  • Peace, WofaCA. I definitely wish you peace and harmony.

I am struck by all those who have mentioned their sons and what they feel about our political situation. I too have a just-turned-16 son who is volunteering 15 to 20 hours a week on a local race - canvassing door to door and identifying supporters of a progressive candidate. The world has got to be a better place because of these young men (and I am sure there are young women too who are just the same).

My son reads a lot of blogs and do I. However, I have found that whenever I repeat something salacious I read somewhere about a candidate, usually McCain, he always says "Yeah, but that shouldn't be what this election is about. Let's not get into that". Certainly takes no pleasure in bringing the guy down. I admit I enjoy the idea of having more talking points against McCain. Another way these young people are showing those of us of a certain age what is important, what we ought to be about.

Anyway, hugs to you WofaCA. I hope you have many days full of family and positive things ahead of you. You will be in our thoughts. You are not alone.

  • Kirk is running scared. Show his opponent, Dan Seals, a little love - give him a donation - big or small - via Act Blue! Please! Seriously, Kirk knows he is in trouble. He has pretended to be a moderate but his voting record doesn't show it. Dan is putting up a strong fight and, if we all do our parts, will win in November. Kirk knows his constituents are bright and he can't pull the wool over their eyes forever. We need to keep calling him out on all the lies he has told. He talks a good game but walks Bush's walk.

  • And if the netroots don't like what Obama does, then what? Are you suggesting they are going to vote for McCain or Nadar or Barr? Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face! Those of us who are liberal need to fully understand Obama cannot get elected with our votes alone and will have to do things we don't like to attract votes from those who are less liberal. That is reality. Get real. Sit back. Stay quiet. Give Barack the room he needs to succeed in November.

  • Great post! Too bad Hillary didn't go out on a high note. I too have stood up for and defended the Clintons over and over. Even after he was out of the White House I admired Bill's work to bring Aids medicines at low cost to patients in Africa and Asia. The thing that has frustrated me beyond measure is Hillary's current inability to STOP. She is far more irritating than the Energizer bunny. What doesn't she get about the fact that she has lost? It is just too bad. Instead of being thought of as a states(wo)man she will now be thought of as the person who was too egocentric to understand when the game is over. It is truly sad.
